About the Author

Born in a castle while in a post-war Estonian displaced persons camp in Europe, author Elle Andra-Warner lived for a time in England, then came to Canada with her parents, settling on the Lake Superior shoreline in Port Arthur, Ontario (now part of the city of Thunder Bay). The sounds and sights of lake freighters -- like the Edmund Fitzgerald -- were an everyday part of her Canadian childhood.

She is also the author of the best-selling The Mounties: Tales of Danger and Adventure from the Early Days; Robert Service: A Great Canadian Poet's Romance with the North; and Hudson's Bay Company Adventures: Tales of Canada's Fur-Traders.

From the Critics

The book presents more than just the tale of the wreck, delving into the history of the Fitzgerald family, the rise of the shipping industry on the Great Lakes and the wrecks that accompanied it, and a little background on the ferocity of Lake Superior's weather. After a thorough exploration of the Fitzgerald's past and how the great ship came to be, the book continues into an account of the Fitzgerald's last fated voyage in November 1975. ....A timeless tale with plenty of history and a fair dose of mystery.
