Christopher Paolini's second installment in the Inheritance series, Eldest, is eloquently written and has a well-constucted plot that keeps the reader hooked throughout. Although the book is in the 600s page range, I was able to whiz through it in no time, due to the fact that it was so exciting. I just could not put it down! In book 2 of this series, readers follow Eragon as he continues his venture to destroy the Empire, led by the evil Galbatorix. Eragon journeys to Ellsemera to meet The Mourning Sage/ The Cripple Who is Whole, and he rapidly completes his training. As readers are enticed, we witness Eragon trying to overcome numerous barriers, and striving to serve his cause as best he can. Engrossing and action-packed, Eragon's story is a magical one of love, war, action, and lots of drama. But at the same time, we also get a glimpse at another quest taking place in Algaesia, this one belonging to Roran, Eragon's long-forgotten cousin. As Roran fights for his village and protects the whole town of Carvahall, readers can't help but notice the uncanny resemblance between Roran and Eragon when it comes to strength, willpower, and leadership skills. While the battle against the Empire escalates to the mighty village of Surda, Eragon realizes that he is needed there. So he summons all the power he possesses and together, with his dragon Saphira, they embark on one of their most treacherous journeys yet to face. Upon arrival, they face battles fiercer than ever before and draw upon magical powers stronger than they have ever known. As Eragon's story crosses paths with Roran's, readers will be drawn to love, admire, and indulge in Christopher Paolini's masterpiece of a tale. Eldest definitely surpasses Eragon in integrity of plot and adrenaline rush; I assure you, you won't be disappointed. In fact you'll be on the edge of your seat and waiting for the much-anticipated release of the third installment in the Inheritance series.
