    A Canadian Murder Mystery

    Autumn Wynde

What could be better than a Victorian era mystery that takes place in Canada. The gritty streets of 19th century Toronto will remind you of London and Detective Murdock as our own home grown Sherlock Holmes. I found it realistic of the times with the poverty and class system that ruled the times. How ignorance was not only tolerated it was expected and the police often had their hands tied when dealing with the cities prominent members.
The story starts off with naked girl frozen in the streets. From there it is fast paced and a well worth read.

    Very Interesting

Most of the mysteries I read centre around modern day events in American settings. It was very refreshing to read a Victorian mystery set in a Canadian city. The author had certainly done her research because I became very involved with the plot and was either emphatic or angry with the different characters. An easy read but not an easy case to solve.

Fans of Anne Perry won't want to miss this one! It is set in Toronto in the late 1800s, and Canadian readers will identify with many of the street names and places that are mentioned. The plot involves a servant girl who is murdered and left in a snowbank. As with any historical mystery, it is interesting to see how the detective is able to solve the mystery without the help of modern science or forensics. This is Jennings' first novel, and I hope she will remain in the growing ranks of mystery authors and write more books.
