Faerie Wars

by Herbie Brennan

Bloomsbury Uk | August 14, 2008 | Hardcover

Henry thinks he is simply saving a butterfly from being eaten by Mr Fogerty’s cat - but he is in fact saving the life of a mis-directed exiled fairy prince. A prince who has to get back to his own land in order to thwart a threatened attack by Fairies of the Night. But time is against Pyrgus Mulvae and soon he is relying on Henry and Mr Fogarty not just to get him home but also to solve the puzzle that surrounds his exile. A wonderful, gripping page-turning read full of the kind of detail that will ensure that this fabulous fantastic novel will have readers young and old holding their breath as the story unfolds.

"Fairy" isn't spelt with an 'e'

A book about fairies attracted me because they don't come around very often. Unfortunately, another will probably never attract me again. Faerie Wars actually made me question the publishing house. It starts off with a completely unbelievable character that is willing to sacrifice something very precious for cats. The plot does not improve. It is fit only to entertain a very young audience, but certain concepts or almost adult-themed. Five year olds would not understand why a woman is having an affair with her female secretary. There are a few good bits however, certain lines were witty and a few of the characters had potential had they not been lost in such an unbelievable and completely pointless plot. Pockets of the story were good. That’s all I can give it.

One of the most imaginative and creative books of the year! The plot is fantastic and the characters are very, very interesting and funny. This world that Herbie Brennan has created is so fantastically written that you start to believe it really exists. The book is astounding, blending fantasy, science and all little dash of mythology. Brennan has truly created a masterpeice.
