A book about fairies attracted me because they don't come around very often. Unfortunately, another will probably never attract me again. Faerie Wars actually made me question the publishing house. It starts off with a completely unbelievable character that is willing to sacrifice something very precious for cats. The plot does not improve. It is fit only to entertain a very young audience, but certain concepts or almost adult-themed. Five year olds would not understand why a woman is having an affair with her female secretary. There are a few good bits however, certain lines were witty and a few of the characters had potential had they not been lost in such an unbelievable and completely pointless plot. Pockets of the story were good. That’s all I can give it.

One of the most imaginative and creative books of the year! The plot is fantastic and the characters are very, very interesting and funny. This world that Herbie Brennan has created is so fantastically written that you start to believe it really exists. The book is astounding, blending fantasy, science and all little dash of mythology. Brennan has truly created a masterpeice.

From the Jacket

When a rebel prince comes into conflict with some demons and a group of unscrupulous faeries of the night, things get very exciting. On top of this, court intrigue and a cunning plot to kill an Emperor send the faerie realm to the brink of chaos. It appears that escape for Prince Pyrgus Malvae is to be found by sending him to the human world using an ancient portal, but Pyrgus does not arrive where he thinks he should! Relying on the help of an ex-bank robber and Henry, a boy about his own age, Pyrgus must get home and help his sister unravel some of the mysterries surrounding their lives.

This richly painted and vivd story, populated by a sparkling cast of characters, is a wonderfully exciting, gripping adventure. Ages 8-12.
