This is a strong debut novel. E. C. Myers takes the old adage, "Be Careful What You Wish For" and runs with it. 16-year old Ephraim Scott comes home to find his mother unconscious with a bottle of pills beside her, He is horrified to discover the reason for her suicide attempt, she had identified Ephraim's dead body at the hospital.
In the belongings of his dead double, Ephraim finds a strange coin, which when flipped allows his wishes to come true, but only if it flips heads. Also the world alters with each flip of the coin.
This is a very original tale, quite unlike anything in the market. A real world setting and very believable characters and dialogue set this above the average teen book. This is not jumping on any bandwagon, it is creating its own bandwagon.
Looking forward to Book 2, Quantum Coin.
