Fantastic Voyage: Live Long Enough To Live Forever

by Ray Kurzweil, Terry Grossman

Plume | September 27, 2005 | Trade Paperback

Tap today¿s technological breakthroughs to live longer and better.

Startling discoveries in the areas of genomics, biotechnology, and nanotechnology occur practically every day. The rewards of this research, some of it as spectacular as science fiction, are practically in our grasp. Fantastic Voyage shows us how we can use these new technologies to live longer than previously imaginable.

The authors take the reader on a journey to undreamed-of vitality with a comprehensive investigation into the cutting-edge science regarding diet, supplementation, genetics, detoxification, and the hormones involved with aging and youth. By following their program, which includes such simple recommendations as eating a balanced, low- glycemic-index diet, and taking powerful anti-aging nutritional supplements, anyone will be able to add years of healthy, active life.

      helpful to you?

Far too many books on nutrition simply ask the reader to accept the superior knowledge of the author and take it on faith that the assertions made in their work are true. The result is a seemingly endless stream of books making conflicting claims (for instance, about what fats are good for you or bad for you, or in what quantities dietary supplements are safe) with no way for a non-expert reader to assess these competing visions. This book takes the opposite approach, explaining every assertion, at both the systemic level and at the level of chemical interactions -- invitingthe reader to decide for him or herself whether or not to accept what the authors are saying. This makes it more work to read than other books, but also far more valuable. There is an accompanying web site that supplies updates and related material. Note: apart from dealing with overall health and longevity, Fantastic Voyage also treats the extremes of longevity science, up to and including the potential for human immortality. More conservative readers might want to skip over these sections, but that's easily done since this issue is treated separately from the issue of general health and doesn't detract from it. And before skipping anything you might want to consider the authors' credentials, which are stellar and are easily found on the internet.
