    Not great
    I bought the series after hearing a lot of hype about it...but I just couldn't get into these books. The writing style is horrible, the plot is transparent, and the characters are unrealistic. D- for this one.

    Why all this Hype
    My thoughts: Media hype and curiosity got the better of me and lured me into reading this twisted story. In my opinion, it is definitely not a literary work of art. The heroine’s dialogue in a backstreet language weaves between her subconscious voice and her desires creating a never ending spin that goes on and on. As I read page after page of descriptive sex scenes from vanilla to kinky and the more explicit it became the more I wanted to laugh. The whole premise borders on dumpster sex…. maybe hamburger but definitely not haute cuisine. The author has created some sustained tension to tease her readers but sex and one’s dreams are definitely the meat of the plot. To say this novel deploys every cheap clichés in existence would be an understatement. Enough said time to move on….

    A waste of time
    It seems that even with all profanity removed from my review, this website will not allow me to upload my thoughts. I cannot figure out what word is triggering the censor, or maybe its just that my entire review was negative. Freedom of speech be gone & censorship at its finest.     Not safe for work.
    This book blew my mind in the best way possible. It was an easy read, captivating, envy-worthy, juicy AND had good erotica. Actually, it's the other way around. It had good erotica backed up by a pretty interesting plot. You were cheering for Anastasia, the shy, sweet new college grad who lost her virginity to the emotionally challenged but filthy rich, (emotions are overrated anyways:) cocky and environmentally friendly mogul. No other book in the trilogy compares to the first taste of ecstasy this book packed. It gets all redundant and pointless after this but I adored this book despite all the critics saying it was badly written and too pornographical. Say what you must but it was definitely entertaining. So let's give it up for the woman who's probably permanently made 80% of the female population blush just at the sound of the name Christian...

    Terrible book
    I am embarrassed to have read only 3 chapters. I have kids and this is shameful literature. If you can call it that. I would have given it zero rating if possible.

    Somewhere between wasn't bad/liked it....
    I agree with other reviewers that the repetative nature of this book becomes annoying after a while. I did not find the book shocking in the least, as a matter of fact I was expecting more. Grammatical and spelling errors always throw me off and this book is no exception, although they were minor. It's a book of fiction, a fantasy, I get it, but Anastasia is a bit unbelievable. It's hard to imagine a virgin being able to perform the way she does. Anastasia should have been a girl with a teeny bit of experience. It is a fast read and I did find myself wanting to turn the pages for more, to find out what happens, to see if the book lives up to the hype, which in the end I think it may have just done so marginally. But it left me still wanting more, I was hoping to be shocked and I was let down.

    Good book
    I enjoyed fifty shades of grey but I find their are some things missing. The characters are not developed enough to my liking. The book was addicting though, once you started getting to the interesting stuff you did not want to stop but at the same time, I feel like things were missing in the book. It was also romantic at some times which I enjoyed, because it took away from the sex a bit, it was also repetitive sometimes. I would still give the book a try it's good but not the best I've read.

    Worst Book I've read in a long time
    I am sorry to everyone who loved this book, but even as a mindless easy beach read this book is terrible. The plot is predictable and tired. Actually even calling it a plot line is overly generous. The characters were dull, simple and almost annoying. I stopped reading it because I couldn't stand reading her pathetic(and incredibly repetitive) train of thought. Terrible, absolutely terrible.

About the Author

E L James is a former television executive, wife and mother of two based in West London. Since early childhood she dreamed of writing stories that readers would fall in love with, but put those dreams on hold to focus on her family and her career. She finally plucked up the courage to put pen to paper with her first novel, Fifty Shades of Grey.
