When literature student Anastasia Steele goes to interview young entrepreneur Christian Grey, she encounters a man who is beautiful, brilliant, and intimidating. The unworldly, innocent Ana is startled to realize she wants this man and, despite his enigmatic reserve, finds she is desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist Ana's quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her, too-but on his own terms.

Shocked yet thrilled by Grey's singular erotic tastes, Ana hesitates. For all the trappings of success-his multinational businesses, his vast wealth, his loving family-Grey is a man tormented by demons and consumed by the need to control. When the couple embarks on a daring, passionately physical affair, Ana discovers Christian Grey's secrets and explores her own dark desires.

Erotic, amusing, and deeply moving, the Fifty Shades Trilogy is a tale that will obsess you, possess you, and stay with you forever.

This book is intended for mature audiences.

    Horrible.

I began this book knowing almost nothing about it and definitely without reading any of the many negative reviews that are available so I would say I read it with an open mind and gave it a fair shot. It didn't help. It didn't take long before I discovered that James really needs a thesaurus. The constant use of the words "Oh my", "Crap" and "Inner goddess", for starters, was unbelievably annoying. There is such a weak plot it's not worth trying to find one amongst the poorly written sex scenes. As for the characters, I know almost nothing about them -- some more very poor writing. Ana is the worst female main character I've ever had the misfortune of reading about (and I've read Twilight!) She's weak and uninteresting. She admits to being afraid, but allows this man to control her... because he's good looking!? She allows him to control her whole life, down to her meals, doctors, medications and exercise regime?? Am I really reading this in the year 2012?? I won't comment on the accuracy of the BSDM element of the book as it's an area I have no experience or knowledge about, but from my point of view it was just plain awful writing. I would rate this book at a grade 7 or 8 level writing ability. All in all, I hated the book. The idea of a widely popular erotic fiction seems on its surface to be a great one, but in my opinion this was too poorly written to fit the bill. Save your money, don't buy the book!
