The Five People You Meet In Heaven

by Mitch Albom

Hyperion Audio | March 24, 2008 | Audio Book (Cassette)

"All endings are also beginnings. We just don''t know it at the time . . ."

On his 83rd birthday, Eddie, a lonely war veteran, dies in a tragic accident trying to save a little girl from a falling cart. With his final breath, he feels two small hands in his-and then nothing. He awakens in the afterlife, where he learns that heaven is not a lush Garden of Eden but a place where your earthly life is explained to you by five people who were in it. These people may have been loved ones or distant strangers. Yet each of them changed your path forever.

In The Five People You Meet in Heaven, Mitch Albom gives us an astoundingly original story with a stunning conclusion that will change everything you''ve ever thought about the afterlife-and the meaning of our lives here on earth.

I read this book in a couple of hours. It was definitely a book that you can't put down. I thoroughly enjoyed it. near the end, even found myself bawling my eyes out, while I read.

Proud to display this on my bookshelf and recommend to Family and friends.

Simply put, this book is magnificent. Like many others probably did, I picked this book up and read it straight through. It once again caught my eye the other day and it was purchased for yet another to experience the splendor and fantastic story telling. I applaud Mitch Albom for taking such an amazing idea and making it extraordinary.

I know I'm a little late to jump on this train and that practically everyone has read this book. Better late than never though, no?

Eddie is a maintenance worker at a theme park on a pier. His wife died years ago and he has always been mad at his father for trapping him in the life he lives. When Eddie dies trying to save a young girl at the pier, he meets 5 people from his past (including people that he never really met or didn't remember). They all teach him lessons as to what the purpose of his life was and how to let go of some of the anger he had over his life.

This was a really quick read and was a touching story. It teaches us that we all have a purpose in life, regardless of how small we think a contribution we are making.

This is the second Mitch Albom book I've read and I think they are too deep for me. I'm not too sure if I'll read his latest one. I'll probably wait for my mom to read it and if she really likes it, I'll read it.

I read this shortly after my Grandfather died. Eddie reminded me a lot of him, as they died at the same age, and they were both World War II Veterans. This book is beautifully written, and I found it to be a gripping tale. You couldnt wait to see who he met next, and what they would have to tell him. This book brought me to tears, its incredibly touching, and beautifully written. It helped me come to terms with my own loss, and is a book I will always treasure.

Probably one of the most inspirational and comforting books I've ever read. Read this book when you are feeling downhearted, deflated, unmotivated, or uninspired. It really provides amazing perspective!

After reading Tuesdays with Morrie and falling in love with it, I decided that I would read the next book by Mitch Albom, The Five People You Meet in Heaven. I have to say this was a fantastic book! As a believer in the afterlife, I found the story to be very believable and a new way to look at Heaven. I also like stories that end well (being the ever-romantic/optimist) and this one doesn't disappoint!

I think for those people who may not have believed in Heaven before will now after reading this book.

I love this book! I read it when it was first published and have re-read it several times. It's a short novel, so it can be polished off in a couple of days if you invest the time. I love the way Mitch Albom takes the reader on a journey of the afterlife and shows us that like poor Eddie, we all impact each other on this earth whether we are aware of it or not. A wonderful read, highly recommended.

We all have our own Ideas about heaven..or at least the after life. Mitch Albom tells a story with a different view then I have ever heard of. He sweeps you away with his characters and makes you feel as if you are yourself living this story. It is an easy read, and hard to put down. Yet again, another fantasticly told story; can't wait till the next one!

wow, it seems so long ago that i read this, but nevertheless, it was amazing. I loved his writing style and creativity tying together all those people and the general idea of his heaven. Read it, if you're somewhat intelligent and enjoy fiction.

I bought this book out of curiousity- I hadn't heard of the author's earlier success, Tuesday's with Morrie , in fact I had never heard of him at all. But I found the idea of meeting only five familiar people in heaven vey intriuging. In fact, that was in my opinion one of the book's strongest points- the very original way of presenting the concept of heaven as a final journey of self-discovery, and reconciliation, almost like a final tie-up of all loose ends.

Unfortunately, the book has little else to offer- the writing is almost childishly simple, but overloaded with a few too many (forced) poetic metaphors (who said you can't judge a book by its cover?). I lost interest at around the third person, but continued reading just to find out who the last two are- thankfully it's a short read. I would recommend this book solely on the basis of the clever and original idea of heaven it presents.

I really liked the feeling of this book, reminded me of a book I read several years ago: the possibility of dreaming on a night without stars. Anyways, if you like this book you might want to give the aforementioned book a try!

A truly remarkable story. The idea for this book was itself enough for me to pick it up. And I was not disappointed. The story is weaved in such a way that you cannot stop reading all the way through. It also includes a colourful and broad range of characters. Wonderful!

After almost 5 hours, I was able to finish reading this book. It was, to say the least, amazing. The journey of life it walks one through, capturing what anyone could also view of their own lives, puts into perspective what life is about and leaves room for thought of what else may be out there. This will certainly make it to several people on the Christmas shopping list of 2005.

This book was wonderful, and I just couldn't put it down! The message of this novel gave me a huge jolt of emotion and power. The book is simple and straightforward in its intention, and the feelings I got afterwards were of peace and a greater sense of depth in life.

Someone in my office anonymously left this book on my desk upon my return from vacation. After I read the first chapter, I was absolutely enthralled, and finished the book in a few hours. I was awed by the author's style and ability to communicate such texture and detail, and evoke such feeling, with so few words. A beautiful, inspiring book -- one of the best I've ever read.

I picked up this book not knowing what to expect - but intrigued by the rave reviews it recieved from authors such as Amy Tan and Frank McCourt.

The 5 People You Meet In Heaven is a gem of a book - that makes the oridinary feel extraordinary - while that sentiment may seem slighly cheesy its the most accurate description I can give it. It will be a book that I will pick up and read when I feel sad, happy and everything in between. A book that any avid reader should have in their collection!!
