Flirt

by HAMILTON LAURELL

Berkley Trade | August 17, 2011 | Hardcover

New in the #1 "New York Times" bestselling series
When Anita Blake meets with prospective client Tony Bennington, who is desperate to have her reanimate his recently deceased wife, she is full of sympathy for his loss. Anita knows something about love, and she knows everything there is to know about loss. But what she also knows, though Tony Bennington seems unwilling to be convinced, is that the thing she can do as a necromancer isn't the miracle he thinks he needs. The creature that Anita could coerce to step out of the late Mrs. Bennington's grave would not be the lovely Mrs. Bennington. Not really. And not for long.

    Short but Sweet!

Had I bought this hard cover, I may have been a little disappointed as this is more of a short story. However, I waited for paperback and although this is short and sweet, I loved it! I liked that it was all about Anita and not about everyone tied to her and the sex. This goes back to the basics of Anita, her job and what she does for a living. Like the other reviews, I didn't bother with the afterword or cartoon sequence. Frankly, wasn't interested and didn't care.

Again, although this is more of a short story, its not to be missed!

    Don't miss it!

Fans of Laurell K Hamilton should all read this one. Flirt made me think of the first Anita Blake novels where her power as necromancer was more central to her story. For a while, we didn't get to see that side of Anita, the part when she meets clients for raising the dead. It was nice to go "back" and not to have sex as a central story, not that I mind the sex in her books. Only Laurell K Hamilton can write great sex scenes like that and make you accept everything that happens to her in that department. And don't forget to read, at the very end, the part where she explains how this idea came to her and how she usually starts from an idea and make riviting stories.

    Meh.

This was a short story, not a novel. If I had paid full price I would have been livid. As it stands I'm merely irritated. I find Ms. Hamiltons writing is becoming desperate. No more ideas... In the effort to push out as many books as possible we are losing quality over quantity. Take your time Laurell, we can wait.

I have been hearing this more and more from customers. It's sad when an author drags things out longer than is really needed. Especially when she could move on to something else that her fans would love.
