Reviewers Introductory Synopsis
It's a done deal. Merit, recently "turned" without her consent, has
grudgingly accepted her new lot in life. She's determined to not
only become a productive member of Cadogan House, but to also
embrace her new position as house Sentinel. Finally letting go of
her life as a graduate student with a promising career, Merit has
decided to make the "official" the move to Cadogan House.
Yes, this move will make her better able to fulfill her position as
Sentinel and give her the opportunity to become better acquainted
with her new "family", but there's a downside too. Merit and
Mallory have been the best of friends for a long time. Because of
recent events, their relationship has already become a bit strained
and the move is only adding more fuel to the fire. But, as house
Sentinel, the needs for proximity and immediate availability are
necessities that absolutely must be accommodated.
If Merit thought moving to Cadogan House was akin to Campus
living…Well, she was close. The rooms are small; there are the
typical campus-like amenities, and even a full-fledged cafeteria.
However, the life of a vampire could never be described as mundane.
At least, not in Chicago! Recent events have revealed the existence
of Vampires to the general public and the reactions have been
mixed. While some view the vampiric society as the new Chicago
Elite, others are really not impressed to find out they are living
and working next to these bloodsucking monsters.
While the fragile line between grudging acceptance and stake
wielding rejection still lies in favor of "live and let live"; this
could change in a heartbeat. There are murmurings of "Raves" or
"Mass Feeding Parties" where vamps lure willing, (and maybe "not
quite" so willing), humans to share in their new-found glory…There
is nothing glorious about treating a group of humans like a feeding
trough and if word of this is leaked to the press, you can be
certain those stake-wielding humans will be busting through the
"castle gates"! It's with this very real possibility that Merit is
"called to duty" in order to head of a newbie reporter looking to
impress his high society family with some sensational copy on
Chicago's newest elite.
As Sentinel, Merit is responsible for the safety of the House and
its membership. So, when Ethan Sullivan (Cadogan House Master) asks
Merit to orchestrate a "re-connection" with her family, she finds
herself torn between her duty and her heart. Life as a "Merit", one
of Chicago's most prominent families, was never an easy one. It has
been years since Merit has maintained any true ties and the thought
of walking back in with her tail between her legs (figuratively
speaking, of course) makes her want to scream! But, as is her duty,
she must "grin and bear" it. This strategic move is absolutely
necessary in order to create the connections needed to keep the
"unsavory side" of the vampire existence out of the public eye.
Reviewers Thoughts
With a wide variety of wonderfully entertaining supporting
characters, Friday Night Bites sees Merits character mature and
flourish under the watchful eye of Master Vampire, Ethan Sullivan.
Tie into the previously mentioned excitement and adventure, a very
"tense" yet mutual sexual attraction that neither Merit nor Ethan
are fully willing to succumb to, and readers will be kept wanting
more! But wait! There's more! Add in Ethan's sense of honor and
dedication to what's best for the house, Ethan practically throws
Merit into the arms of another Master vamp (for strategic purposes
only, of course), Morgan of Navarre house, and you've got romantic
Urban Fantasy at its finest!
Chloe Neill has once again woven a unique world of vamps, romance,
humor, and has even thrown in a shifter or two, to create a
wonderfully adventurous reading experience. With this second book
the Chicagoland Vampire Series, Neill has ensured her continued
success and ensnared many a reader who will be left chomping at the
bit for more!
