by ARMSTRONG KELLEY

Random House Of Canada | June 27, 2011 | Hardcover

New York Times bestselling author Kelley Armstrong returns with the tenth installment of the Women of the Otherworld series.

The Alaskan wilderness is a harsh landscape in the best of conditions, but with a pack of rogue werewolves on the loose, it's downright deadly.

Elena Michaels, the Pack's chief enforcer, knows all too well the havoc "mutts" can wreak. When they hear of a series of gruesome maulings and murders outside Anchorage, she and her husband, Clay, journey to Alaska in the dead of winter in order to hunt down the dangerous werewolves. Trapped in this savage, untamed winter realm, she and Clay learn more about their own werewolf heritage than they bargained for, tapping a little more into the wild nature of the beast within. With Elena back in the starring role, this is the book Kelley Armstrong fans have been waiting for.

Well once again the story of Clay and Elena was great. I have really enjoyed all the books that focus on these two as well as the other werewolves. Kelley Armstrong is a wonderful writer and one that I will keep reading.
If you have not started this series yet, and you are looking for characters that you can really connect with, start this series today.

The suspense and story line was great. It is a must read. All of her books are so good. I love the ending to this book. I can't wait for the next.

It really amazes me that after 9 books she can still come up with a fast paced and interesting story that you can't put down. I stayed up until 3am the night before I had an anatomy quiz because I couldn't stop reading it. Absolutely loved it! Some interesting new characters, a look into Elena's insecurities and her strong relationship with Clay. I have nothing bad to say about it, absolutely great. A definite must read!

Although werewolves aren't my favourites in the paranormal genre, I was asked to narrate this book as part of my volunteer work as a reader for the Institute for the Blind.

I've encountered both Elena and Clayton in other Kelley Armstrong books, usually as a peripheral part of the witch and warlock stories about Paige and/or Jamie. But this book was all about Elena, and I actually quite enjoyed the story, and really connected for the the first time with the character of Elena.

There are a number of mysterious things going on in Alaska, and at least some of them seem to involve werewolf activities. So, as the representative of the American pack's Alpha - Jeremy - Elena and Clay are dispatched northward to investigate and, if necessary enforce justice.

I don't want to spoil, so all I will say is that Elena and Clay find more than they expected in the snowy north, and both of them have to deal with some personal demons along the way. There's plenty of excitement, some interesting twists, and - one of my favourite things about Kelley Armstrong's books - a lot of grey in the personalities of most of the characters so you can relate to them on a more "human" level [even though most of the characters AREN'T human!].

It's a good read - especially if you're into werewolves.

"Like Stephen King, . . . Armstrong not only writes interesting page-turners, she has also achieved that unlikely goal, what all writers strive for: a genre of her own. . . . This is not The Call of the Wild; it's Nora Roberts meets The Sopranos by way of Henry David Thoreau."
