Like I say with a lot of books, I really wanted to like this one. A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Future was one of the first books I took out with my new library card. I figured it was by Michael J. Fox, so it should be excellent.
First of all, the book is tiny. There’s probably just as many words in the book as there is in the title.
Second of all, I had no idea that Fox went back and got his GED later in life. I also had no idea that he held so many honorary doctorates (I’m still waiting for someone to offer me one, by the way—why should the stars get such treatment?).
Third, if you’re going to take anything away from this very short read, it’s that right when you think you have it made in the shade, life will throw you a curve ball. It’s inevitable. You may not be able to control life’s events, but you can control how you react to them.
This book would be a great gift for a graduate, though I don’t see myself reading it again anytime soon.
