Phoebe is just your typical goth girl with a crush. He''s strong and silent.and dead. All over the country,a strange phenomenon is happening. Some teenagers who die aren''t staying dead. They are coming back to life, but they are no longer the same-they stutter, and their reactions to everything are slower. Termed "living impaired" or "differently biotic," they are doing their best to fit into a society that doesn''t want them. Fitting in is hard enough when you don''t have the look or attitude, but when almost everyone else is alive and you''re not , it''s close to impossible. The kids at Oakvale High don''t want to take classes or eat in the cafeteria next to someone who isn''t breathing. And there are no laws that exist to protect the differently biotic from the people who want them to disappear-for good. With her pale skin and Goth wardrobe, Phoebe has never run with the popular crowd. But no one can believe it when she falls for Tommy Williams, the leader of the dead kids. Not her best friend, Margi, whose fear of the differently biotic is deeply rooted in guilt over the past. And especially not her neighbor,Adam, the star of the football team. Adam has just realized his feelings for Phoebe run much deeper than just friendship. He would do anything for her, but what if protecting Tommy is the one thing that would make her happy? Generation Dead is a sharp, funny, and breathtakingly original novel from an exciting new talent.

    Zombie's Who Knew! 5

Generation Dead by Daniel Waters is the first book in his Generation Dead series about modern day life with a little zombie action thrown in for good measure. This is the story of a young girl named Phoebe who is living in a world where teenagers are coming back to life after they have died. She befriends an undead boy named Tommy and quickly comes to think of him as more then a friend. There is a wonderful mix of humor and real life issues discussed in this book along with a fast moving… read more

    Pretty Good... 3

This book was so cool, out of the ordinary and unique, The characters were awesome and hilarious. It was weird, but also wicked to read about these kids coming back to life as zombies, it's such a perfect idea for a book. It got really good towards the end, the ending is completely shocking and unexpected, which what this book needed to keep it interesting. I enjoyed reading this book, the author wrote this book perfectly, adding humour and wit along with edgey characters. I thought more… read more

A Nice Zombie Romance Read! 4

I am not a fan of the 'Zomibe' genre, but this was a really cute read! I liked how Daniel Waters described the characters. It also had a cute love twist, but just letting you know, it's not very high on romance. Daniel has various people as the narrator and I think that was a decent touch! Overall, very fun undead read and I would definitely recommend it! I can't wait to read the next book!

    wasn't bad, wasn't great 3

This review is from: Generation Dead (Trade Paperback)

I'd rate this book a 2.7 if I could but I can't so I give it 3 stars. It took a long time for me to finish this book. I was expecting more excitement since this book is about dead teens that come back to life but all the dead teens are just as dull as the humans. Basically this book was about the main character, Phoebe, falling for a dead teen, Tommy but Adam (who is Phoebe's friend) likes her and the book just goes on about other teens hating on the dead and that's really it. You don't need… read more

As much as I don't care for teen romance cheese, you had me a zombie..... Entertaining and fun concept, that is well written.

Zombies want to live too! 0

This review is from: Generation Dead (Trade Paperback)

I think what I found really interesting about this book was that although it does follow the trend of quote/unquote "edgy teen fiction" there's a lot of really good underlying themes in the book. Here you have teenagers that, for some reason or another (be it additives in the food or shots they had as kids or whatever) have come back to life as "differently biotic" or, for a more layman's way of saying it: Zombies. The zombies seem to face extreme ostracising as well as name calling, a form… read more

One of the Undead Books you Should Read. 4

Don't expect just romance because that's not what you're going to get. With some of the teenagers in America that died coming back to life, they're ridiculed and treated unfairly, and have make big adjustments and some deal with some disadvantages (moving more slowly, taking more time to think and speak), it just heightens the plot. There was a wide variety of types of characters with so many different personalities -- you hate some and you love some. It's just an unforgettable book, and though… read more

    Dead Come Back 5

This book made me wish the dead could really come back. They make life more fun than how it is. Considering that this is Waters's first novel, he did a great job with romance and building the charcaters.
