Getting Revenge on Lauren Wood blends humor, romance, and high-school power struggles into a story at once thought-provoking and effervescent. If you like Meg Cabot, Susan Juby, or Gordon Korman's Son of the Mob, you'll love this book.

I was inspired to read this book for three reasons. 1) Carrie Jones, author of NEED and CAPTIVATE, recommended it on her blog. 2) The cover with the Barbie doll in her back was hilarious. 3) Great title. So, it is true what they say, a great package can inspire even the most well-informed book person to pick up the bright yellow cover and say "gotta read this." I started over lunch and had a hard time putting it down. Eileen Cook is funny, engaging and smart - and if you can make me laugh out loud - which she did - then you have me.
The premise: Helen was betrayed in Middle School by her BFF Lauren Wood and she vows revenge. When her family moves away, she spends the next few years plotting and scheming - basically obsessing on how she is going to get her back. When Helen sees her opportunity to return to the small town High School, she begins to put her plan into action. On the way, she finds out that although revenge is supposed to be sweet, innocent people get caught in the middle and that the casualty of war could be her. If you liked the movie Mean Girls, you will really enjoy this book.

Helen Worthington has been wronged. Very wronged. So wronged that after three years away, living on the other side of the country, she's still looking for revenge on her former best friend.
But even when Helen's vengeful plan is going well and Lauren's life starts swirling the drain, Helen knows there's still something's missing. But what? And why, after three years of reliving her humiliation at Lauren's hand, isn't Helen feeling great about getting back at her former friend?
GETTING REVENG ON LAUREN WOOD is a quick, fun read with real, three dimensional characters. I'm not going to lie, this book is a juicy read. Full of scandal, evil frenemy retaliation, boyfriend stealing and high school vigilante justice. But it's not just guilty pleasure fun; Helen learns a little something along the way with the help of her savvy but hip grandmother, a new friend and the school's hot bad boy. And who doesn't love a hot guy to help teach a girl a few things? GETTING REVENGE ON LAUREN WOOD is a great read and the perfect follow up to Eileen Cook's WHAT WOULD EMMA DO?.

Getting revenge on Lauren Wood would have to be one of the best books I have ever read. Lauren has lied about what really happened forcing Helen to leave her school and town. i recommend this book to everybody showing a funny story about teenage drama.

From the Critics

"Characters are funny and devious, and the right amount of high-school drama moves the plot along. Fans of Mean Girls will enjoy seeing the story turned on its head in this enjoyable tale." -SLJ, June 1, 2010
