This book deserved the Amelia Francis Howard Gibbon Medal. The text is charming in both content and rhythm. The illustrations- works of art through the medium of photographed plasticine pictures are a perfect combination.

I received Gifts as a present by a friend who found similar characteristics between the grandmother within this story of a widely travelling old lady and myself. I am a grandmother of 83 and travel frequently. I also am a former kindergarden teacher and find the book informative reading, stimulating curiosity in the young and old alike. I gave Gifts to some of my grandchildren and my granddaughter age 22, loved it so much that she cried.
