The Girl Who Played With Fire

by Stieg Larsson

Penguin Group Canada | July 28, 2009 | Hardcover

The electrifying follow-up to the phenomenal best seller The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

The fierce heart of this novel is Lisbeth Salander: the troubled, wise-beyond-her-years genius hacker who teamed up with crusading journalist Mikael Blomkvist in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

This time, Lisbeth is implicated in a murder: her fingerprints found on the weapon used to kill two journalists the night before their explosive story about sex trafficking in Sweden was set to be published. Now, while Blomkvist-alone in his belief in her innocence-plunges into his own investigation of the slayings, Lisbeth is drawn into a hunt in which she is the prey, and which compels her to revisit her dark past in an effort to settle with it once and for all.

So after the first I was very reluctant to read the 2nd. But i am so glad i did because it was amazing. This book was a lot faster paced since all the characters were already introduced. It had many surprises and made me excited for hornet's nest =)

This book kept me up reading well into the night! The characters are very well done, especially Lisbeth. The story lines as there are several are so enthralling. Had to start "...Hornet's nest" right away just to find out what happens!

    2nd book was "just good"

So after ready the 1st book in this series The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, I was ready to dive into #2. It was an okay book, but I found it slow and the ending was a deep disappointment. It felt like as the reader you are building up and up to some great revelation and, nah, thats not how it plays out. The first book was a big draggy at the start but really picked up, was hoping that was the same with this one, nope. Glad I read it though, because I like the characters. Am taking a break though until I read the last one. Really hope it picks back up. Also - I do recommend reading the 1st one before this one, there are a lot of references to the first one and you get a better feel as to how the characters meld together.

    Captivating!

This second novel was more easier to get into than the first novel (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), but both lack that gripping start that novels should have. The beginning starts off with whole a lot of promiscuity, which some readers may be turned off by, but it adds to the whole theme/atmosphere of the novel which deals with sex trafficking and its underworld.

This novel was easier to digest since most of the main characters are introduced in the first novel, but while you think you have Lisbeth Salander figured out, think again! The ever mysterious Salander has a couple of surprises in store for you and as always it's slowly revealed until about more than 2/3rds into the novel. On page 624 in mass-market edition is where the bomb is dropped! (well at least for me it was a shock!)

The ending will have you running to get the third book ASAP.

    Enjoy~ ♥

From the Critics

"Fans of postmodern mystery will revel in Larsson''s latest.. While endlessly complex, the plot has the requisite chases, cliffhangers and bloodshed. Not to mention Fermat''s theorem." - Kirkus Reviews
