The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

by Stieg Larsson

Penguin Group Canada | June 1, 2009 | Mass Market Paperbound

Forty years ago, Harriet Vanger disappeared off the secluded island owned and inhabited by the powerful Vanger family. There was no corpse, no witnesses, no evidence. But her uncle, Henrik, is convinced that she was murdered by someone from her own deeply dysfunctional family. Disgraced journalist Mikael Blomkvist is hired to investigate, but he quickly finds himself in over his head. He hires a competent assistant: the gifted and conscience-free computer specialist Lisbeth Salander, and the two unravel a dark and appalling family history. But the Vangers are a secretive clan, and Blomkvist and Salander are about to find out just how far they are prepared to go to protect themselves.

I was hooked. Couldn't put the book down. The first 80-100 pages were a little difficult to understand. The names of the characters and places. Once I kept reading I was sucked right in. Finished the book on the beach in the Dominican. As soon as I got back I rushed out to get the second of the trilogy.

One of those books where you want to keep reading to know whats going to happen next. I agree with some of the other reviews on here about text that was a bit crude and didn't really need to read but other than that it was a really good and mysterious read.

This book is fast paced and certainly holds your attention but some of the content is gruesome. It took a few unexpected twists that I could have lived without.

This book is the first novel in English that I read and I loved it. After two chapters the story keep you until you finish the book. I really enjoyed reading this book. I cannot wait to start reading the second book.

About the Author

Stieg Larsson (1954-2004) was the Editor-in-Chief of the magazine Expo from 1999, and had previously worked at a major news agency for many years. He was one of the world's leading experts on anti-democratic, right-wing extremist and Nazi organisations, and he was often consulted on that account. He passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in November 2004, some time before the publication of his debut crime novel and first part of the Millennium Trilogy.
