Good In Bed

by Jennifer Weiner
Read by: Paula Cale

Simon & Schuster Audio | August 30, 2005 | Audio Book (CD)

At first my eyes wouldn''t make sense of the letters. Finally, they unscrambled. Loving a Larger Woman, said the headline, by Bruce Guberman. Bruce Guberman had been my boyfriend for just over three years, until we''d decided to take a break three months ago. And the larger woman, I could only assume, was me.

Cannie Shapiro never wanted to be famous. The smart, sharp, plus-sized pop culture reporter was perfectly content writitng about other people''s lives on the pages of the Philadlphia Examiner. But the day she opened up a national women''s magazine to find out that her ex-boyfriend has been chronicling the ex-sex life is the day her life changes forever.

Loving a larger woman is and act of courage in our world, Bruce has written. And Cannie -- who never knew that Bruce saw her as a larger woman, or thought that loving her was an act of courage -- is plunged into misery, and into the most amazing year of her life.

Radiant with wit, bursting with surprises, and written with bite and bittersweet humor, Jennifer Weiner reaches beyond Cannie''s story and into the heart of every woman. Gut-level real and laugh-out-loud funny, Good in Bed celebrates the courage of the human spirit and features an unbelievably funny cast of supporting characters, the strangest dog you''ll ever encounter, and a heroine you''ll never forget.

This was one of those books that I could not put down. Cannie is a very likable, funny character. I found there was a section of the book that was quite dark & deep that I did not expect, but for the most part it was an enjoyable read!

Hi Amanda, the sequel to Good In Bed is Certain Girls. It was good but not as good as the first. I hope you enjoy....happy reading!

Maureen, I liked this book too, but it is the only book I have read from this author. I should give her other books a try?

    An Engrossing Read

Once I started reading Good In Bed , I couldn't put it down. This is more than just a girlie book. This is a funny, insightful, and emotionally fast-paced journey through a woman's life story. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone who is insecure about being overweight, or is still hurting from a major breakup, as these are the two major issues Cannie dwells on for the first part of this book. Good In Bed is very insightful and true to life sprinkled with unexpected plot twists. It portrays the real difficulties some women face physically and emotionally in their lives and how Cannie manages to overcome the judgements she feels both towards herself and to others. Jennifer Weiner has created a thorough read and I definitely recommend it to anyone who owns a funny little puppy, like Cannie. Everyone can relate to and appreciate this book. It's amusing yet serious, pro-lesbian yet male-loving, detaching yet endearing. What are you waiting for? Go get it!
