Goodnight Moon

by Margaret W Brown

August 15, 1991 | Hardcover

In a great green room, tucked away in bed, is a little bunny. "Goodnight room, goodnight moon." And to all the familiar things in the softly lit room--to the picture of the three little bears sitting in chairs, to the clocks and his socks, to the mittens and the kittens, to everything one by one--he says goodnight.

In this classic of modern children's literature, beloved by generations of readers and listeners, the quiet poetry of the words and the gentle, lulling illustrations combine to make a perfect book for the end of the day.

Goodnight Moon" fulfills two very powerful needs to small children - to keep their mothers close to their sides as long as possible and to make closure on their day by telling each object goodnight. It is a poetic and soothing book helping babies and parents to calm down and go to bed. This charming story of a young rabbit's bedtime ritual invokes the kind of cozy quiet that invites the peaceful security of pleasant dreams. This book is a "must have" for any parent of a young child. Add to it "Why Some Cats are Rascals, Book 1" and you have a perfect birthday package. You might also want to cosider Corduroy , The Giving Tree, and Love You Forever

I read this book to my son almost every night before bed. He is 7 months old now, but we have been reading this since he was 2 months old and as a result the book has a definite comforting feature to it. While he's not much of a crier, all babies have their fussy days and moments and if I read this book while he is in that zone, he will calm down, curl in and listen! I love having a book we can turn to that is so comforting to him. As well, because it is not too long it is very easy and natural to memorize the words as you read it (which really helps as baby ages and like to "help" turn the pages.

I have read this book so many times that I am now on my tenth copy of it. My son is now 11 years old but I am a childcare provider and this has been a favorite book of all my children. My son always chose this book as his last one before bedtime. He loved the book and the photos. Its simplicity is what captivates the children. It is a must for any parent to have in their collection.

I have been reading this book to my daughter since she was a baby. She is now 2 1/2 and she is reading it to me every night. She loves it and the pictures and color is just wonderful. The pages where the light is on, makes the page look like the lamp is really lighting up the page. It's a wonderful book

My daughter received this as a welcome gift. It had been a friend's favourite book and her mother's favourite book. Maddie loves it for all the different pictures and activities. She also loves its companion My World which is every bit as fabulous.

A staple in our family library, this book is more than a cute story; the progressive darkening of the pages, the "wandering" mouse, and the repetitive rhyme are all what makes this a must have for any family with young children!

Count on this old time favorite to enchant your little one. They will be captivated as the little rabbit bids his surroundings good night with lulling words and beautiful illustations. And make sure not to miss the little mouse! My daughter has discovered a game of hide and seek with a little mouse in the green room that delights her evertime we read the story.

    Toddlers love it!

As an adult, I thought the book was boring saying goodnight to everything but this is precisely why my 1 1/2 year old daughter loves it. She likes waving goodnight to everything and pointing at all the objects in the room.

It's simple message makes this a good bedtime story for toddlers.

Goodnight Moon is my all time favorite. I first read it to my son when he was 3 months old. He is now almost 22 years old. His sister (now 18) and younger brother (now 12) all went to sleep with this fabulous book. Bedtime was never so easy. I've recommended it to hundreds of people over the years - even to complete strangers that I see at Chapters browsing in the kid's section. It's the first thing I buy when I need a gift for someone's newborn. I'll certainly be reading it to my future grandchildren.

I gave this book to my daughter when she was 21 months old. It became her favourite book immediately despite having dozens of other books she loves.

"Goodnight Moon" is becoming a classic in our household! Our 10 month old son loves the rhythmic writing of Margaret Wise Brown. It soothes him to sleep almost every night. The transition pictures from daylight to night are wonderful!
