I bought this book expecting to read a survey of a really interesting subculture. Instead, I had to suffer through a whiny and rather annoying text about how rough Goths, who can’t be so horribly off if they can spend exuberant amounts on eccentric clothing, have it. Instead of educating the reader of the heritage behind the modern subculture, the author simply talked about what modern Goths like, dislike, like a bit, hate a lot. This became overwhelmingly boring and drawn on until I could no longer torture myself with the endless droning. In fact, if you would like to read the content of this tome without having to shell out 20 dollars, surf over to the first available gothic blog you find. I am sure it will be just as informative as this… and considerably more entertaining. This book was nothing more than an author’s attempt to make herself and her subculture seem like something of import. All it did accomplish was to make me realize that Goths are infact much whinier than I had previously thought.
