Growing up this was my favorite book not only because my name is sam and I have always been called Sam-I-Am, but because of the enjoyment I have always gotten from this book. Sam-I-Am only wanted his freind to try some green eggs and ham, but because of the way they looked he wouldn't eat them anywhere or with anything. Once he finally tried them he realized that Sam was right, they were great and he would now eat them anywhere and with anything or anyone. Dr. Seuss is a great author and I have enjoyed all of his books, but Green eggs and ham is by far my favorite one to read. I have read it to my nephew several times and he enjoys it also.
Dr. Seuss like many authors had some ups and downs with his books, but in the end has many books out there that both young and old get to enjoy and I appreciate all the work he has done.

From Our Editors

This classic children's book shows kids how everyone has something they don't like to eat, but that the dislike comes from just not having tried to eat it. Sam-I-Am wants his friend to try green eggs and ham, a meal he thoroughly enjoys but that makes his friend shudder. Green Eggs and Ham is Dr. Seuss' playfully illustrated book with the usual fun with repeated words and phrases. Kids will eagerly read on to the end of this book to see if Sam-I-Am can open his friend's mind.

Employee Review Erica from Chapters # 788, Langley, BC

Bennet Cerf, the founder of Random House, bet Dr. Seuss fifty dollars that he could not write a book using just fifty words. Seuss won that bet with this book, one of the most well-read and loved children's stories of our time. Although it is lengthy for a kid's book, the repetitiveness make the sounds familiar to the kids, and helps them pay attention. Seuss states in his biography, Dr. Seuss and Mr. Geisel: "It's the only book I ever wrote that still makes me laugh." He adds: "Bennet never paid!" Read this book again for the first time.

About the Author

Dr. Seuss was born Theodor Geisel in Springfield, Massachusetts on March 2, 1904. After attending Dartmouth College and Oxford University, he began a career in advertising. His advertising cartoons, featuring Quick, Henry, the Flit!, appeared in several leading American magazines. Dr. Seuss''s first children''s book, And To Think That I Saw It On Mulberry Street, hit the market in 1937, and the world of children''s literature was changed forever! In 1957, Seuss''s The Cat in the Hat became the prototype for one of Random House''s best- selling series, Beginner Books. This popular series combined engaging stories with outrageous illustrations and playful sounds to teach basic reading skills. Brilliant, playful, and always respectful of children, Dr. Seuss charmed his way into the consciousness of four generations of youngsters and parents. In the process, he helped kids learn to read.

Winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 1984 and three Academy Awards, Seuss was the author and illustrator of 44 children''s books, some of which have been made into audiocassettes, animated television specials, and videos for children of all ages. Even after his death in 1991, Dr. Seuss continues to be the best-selling author of children''s books in the world.
