The Eyes of the Republic are Everywhere.

The victim of what she believes is a malicious kidnapping, seer Delilah Desjardins quickly realizes that her abductor is on a mission to save her from assassins. Rafe, a fallen angel, must ensure that Delilah, blessed with the gift of foresight, reaches her true calling as an oracle for the Republic--and if his divine calling results in a more earthly relationship between the two of them, well, he doesn't mind that at all.

Drawn to Rafe, but fearing the loss of her gifts should she surrender to his charms, Delilah knows she has to leave him. But fleeing his guardianship sets the assassins on her trail again. As Rafe races to save Delilah, he knows he isn't just saving her for the good of the Republic, for the angels, or for the future--he's saving her for himself.

This is a new series by Claire Delacroix who also writes under the name Deborah Cooke (The Pyr Series). This is the second book and if you are thinking of buying this novel, make sure you start with the first "Fallen". I started with this, not realizing it was a series and was quite lost in parts. It would have been nice if the author had a glossary of terms or made references in the story to catch readers up who have not read Fallen.

Because I got a bit lost in trying to sort out what was what, I find it difficult to give this book more than a two star rating. I don't know if I'll go any further in this series and back track to understand what I missed. I did like the concept which is Fallen Angels sent to earth on missions to protect or help mankind right its wrongs. This is the story of Rafe and his mission to protect Delilia so that she can fufill her destiny of becoming the Oracle (messenger for the Angels). It had a sci-fy feel which reminded me a bit of the movie Terminator Salvation and Running Man. Strong and interesting Characters, but again don't know its enough to make me what to go further.

About the Author

Bestselling author CLAIRE DELACROIX always loved stories, both telling them and hearing them. She sold her first romance novel in 1992 and has been happily writing romances ever since. The Beauty, part of Claire''s bestselling ''Bride Quest'' series, was her first title to land on the New York Times Extended List. Claire makes her home in Canada with her family, a number of incomplete knitting projects, and a lot of overgrown houseplants. She loves to travel, cook, ride her bike, and read. Claire also writes romances as Claire Cross and as Deborah Cooke.
