I just used this dictionary for the first time since I got it and there are some inaccuracies or perhaps more accurately, some omissions, I already noticed (perhaps omitting a translated term could be considered inaccurate as it may imply that there are no other options for the translation of that specific word?). Considering it is the CANADIAN edition, I noticed the word "toque" wasn't even in there!! That in itself isn't a huge deal but the French version, "tuque" IS in here and says that the English translation is a "bobble hat." What on Earth is a bobble hat?? I have never heard of that in my life.. and the word toque is so common in Canada, I wonder how that isn't the English side of the dictionary. Maybe some areas of Canada DO call it a bobble hat, but I know that the majority say "toque" so why isn't it in here as a second option? Ok, so I'm rambling on about one small word, but there were a few other small things I noticed (such as the only translation for "e-mail" is "courrier électronique" when I've only ever heard "courriel") as well. I'm glad I know French (with some trouble with some words when I have a lapse of memory) so that I can make sure to use the proper word in the proper context which this dictionary may not accurately point out. Besides all these negativities, this book includes extras like a glossary of grammatical terms, articles (such as telling you to say "le Canada" in French instead of just "Canada" like we do in English), tenses, etc. which would help in correctly formulating sentences, not just translating words with no associated context. Although these points are important, the fact that some of the words to translate or the translations for words themselves (including "bobble hat" AND "toque" as well as "courrier électronique" AND "courriel") are lacking really hurts my review for this book, considering that the purpose of a French and English dictionary is to provide the different options in the first place! On top of this, I noticed these things just today, the FIRST time I used the book.. I can only imagine what else it is missing. On the whole, good for someone who knows French pretty well so you can make good judgements about the words to use. I just need some reminding of the French words and whether they are feminine or masculine. If anyone knows of a better dictionary or have an opinion on why the book is like this, please let me know. Hope this review helps! I'd say check it out before you buy it.. but not a horrible product.
