From the Publisher

The New York Times bestseller about how marriage, love, and how sometimes falling in love with the wrong person at the wrong time can be the right thing. Elinor Mackey has lived her life in perfect order: college, law school, marriage, successful corporate career. But when she discovers that she and her podiatrist husband, Ted, can''t have children, Elinor withdraws into her own world of heartbreak and anger. While Elinor
falls in love with the oak tree in their front yard, sleeping under it at night, Ted begins an affair with Gina, the nutritionist at their gym. Ted, who may be the only one who can help Gina and her son, suddenly finds himself in love with two women at the same time. In the tradition of Anne Tyler, John Cheever, and Tom Perrotta, Winston''s second novel looks beyond the manicured surface of suburbia to a world of loss, longing, lust, and betrayal.

    2.5 Stars.... 2

I'm really surprised to read that people have given this novel 4+ stars out of 5. It started out very slow, and all the characters to me, seemed very slow. There were some ups and downs, and some events that kept me going eventually, but the ending killed it for me. I was angry with everyone. Good Grief was so much better and more believable.

    Praise for Lolly's Second 4

This review is from: Happiness Sold Separately: A Novel (Hardcover)

I think Lolly Winston is a wonderful writer. She has a quick-wit about her that makes even the most depressing scenes light and funny. This is especially true for "Happiness Sold Separately". Elinor Mackie is a woman whose life is crumbling around her. Her husband, Ted has cheated on her with a health-crazed younger woman, and on top of that, she's got a dose of "unexplained infertility". This novel keeps you glued in because you want Ted and Elinor to get back together, but at the same time… read more

    didn't like it 1

I found this book uncomfortable to read. The ending left me unhappy and mad at all the characters. I'm glad I hadn't bought the hard cover (expensive). The ending of Good Grief left you wondering. But a feeling of things turning out ok for the main characters. I don't think I'll read this author again!!

    Good Read 3

This review is from: Happiness Sold Separately: A Novel (Hardcover)

I enjoyed this story. Lolly Winston is a talented writer who makes her books easy to read. I don't have anything bad to say about this book. I didn't LOVE it but it was enjoyable and worth reading. I liked how she told the story of a couples infidelity problems from all sides. The husband, wife & mistress. It's not often that you get to know the reasoning behind all of the characters actions. It put a refreshing spin on things. Frustrating, sometimes sickening, but refreshing. I'm glad… read more
