Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Children's Edition

by J. K. Rowling

July 21, 2007 | Hardcover

Harry is waiting in Privet Drive. The Order of the Phoenix is coming to escort him safely away without Voldemort and his supporters knowing--if they can. But what will Harry do then? How can he fulfil the momentous and seemingly impossible task that Professor Dumbledore has left him with? Harry has been burdened with a dark, dangerous and seemingly impossible task: that of locating and destroying Voldemort's remaining Horcruxes. Never has Harry felt so alone, or faced a future so full of shadows. But Harry must somehow find within himself the strength to complete the task he has been given. He must leave the warmth, safety and companionship of The Burrow and follow without fear or hesitation the inexorable path laid out for him... In this final, seventh instalment of the Harry Potter series, J. K. Rowling unveils in spectacular fashion the answers to the many questions that have been so eagerly awaited. The spellbinding, richly woven narrative, which plunges, twists and turns at a breathtaking pace, confirms the author as a mistress of storytelling, whose books will be read, reread and read again.

Harry Potter and the deathly hallows wraps up the series beautifully.
With no doubt the best book of the century, from fatal deaths, romantic interactions and good powering over evil. This book has a magical world you won't want to miss 3

Sad and tired ending for Harry

Well here we are.. on the seventh and FINAL volume of the famous Harry Potter series. This is where everything gets settled once and for all with that nasty Voldemort character. With just 600 pages to wrap it all up, you would think that Ms. Rowling would come out flying. You would think this but you would be wrong... The first hundred pages mostly deal with a Weasly brother's wedding and then as the main characters hide in the woods for the next couple of hundred pages, things don't seriously get started until the halfway point! The remaining three hundred pages are very active but they almost feel rushed - as if the editor was whispering to the author offstage - "You have to go out there, the audience is waiting for you..." All in all, a disappointing end to a decent series that was excellent at the beginning and slowly degraded into bloated melodramas by the fourth book. If you are looking for excellent YR books, ask your local retailer or librarian - there are MANY alternatives to this series. Like McDonalds, it is not the best fare but perhaps the most famous. I will always be grateful to Ms. Rowling for jumpstarting the YR and fantasy genres - that contribution will live on for some time.
All the same, I have no desire to reread these stories...

This book was great for finishing off the series. However, there were certain "events" that transpired (death) that were difficult to read about. Well written and brought together in an exciting way. Again, there is a big issue with the epilogue. It's terrible! After waiting years for these books to be released and for the series to finally end, the fanatical readers (such as myself), expected a lot more of the "afterwards" epilogue.

This is probably one of the best Harry Potter books. It's exciting the whole way through! The only thing I didn't like about it was the length. i thought it could have been a lot longer. At some parts it seemed rushed, however this just my be not wanting it to end! This book is a fantastic end to Harry's adventure!

Probably not my favorite book in the series (that would have to be book 4), but still incredibly good. Besides just enjoying the whole story and many different exciting parts i especially loved the part with Snape. I loved the chapter completely dedicated to him, and honestly his story was what made the book for me. Would recommend people read it if only for that.

So many things to find out, and all explained in about 600 pages !
I really loved this last book, and it was - in a way - different from the other 6 books because the setting changes every couple chapters, and the main characters aren`t in one place the whole time.
The epilogue was just a nice end to the series (:
I loved the whole series ^^

found this book to be extremely disappointing. Other reviews have gone extensively into the plot holes and screeching halt that character development (especially of the trio) came to. I won't rehash any of that here.

My bone to pick is with the character resolution of Snape. I'm an older reader, so while I enjoyed the trio I was drawn more to the ambiguous character of Snape. His sarcastic/dry/dark/cruel personality contrasted with his continually saving Harry, being a member of the Order of the Phoenix and having Dumbledore's absolute trust drew me in. I really was curious to see how the contradictions would be resolved.

I had a feeling when I read OotP how it would go down. As soon as I read the scene where Snape calls Lily a mudblood I knew there was more to their relationship... I immediately thought "oh no. Please don't let the sole reason for anything good in Snapes character be something so melodramatic as a decades unrequited love for Lily Potter." Alas...that was how it turned out.

I was hoping to see some depth in Snape's reasons for turning on Voldemort. That Snape loved Lily, a person who died because of his actions, was a good starting point. But I felt like there should have been much more to what made Snape do the right thing at the end of the day. There were brief scenes involving a difficult childhood that were never elaborated on. A mention of Snapes mother but nothing more. There were strong parrallels between Harry, Snape and Voldemort that got one line in the last book. For such a seemingly complex character the motivations of the majority of his actions turned out to be simplistic. The scene where he asks Dumbledore about the fate of his soul in regards to killing him, hints at depth but it never evolves. I would have like to see that his redemption started with his love for Lily Potter and grew from there.

Unlike some reviews I've read, I wasn't terribly upset that Snape died. I loved the character but felt a happily ever after would have been difficult to write. Certainly possible but I wasn't expecting it. I was more annoyed at how he died. I was hoping for a noble death. The revelation of whose side Snape was on was such a key point in the narrative. Harry especially owes his life several times over to Snape. Harry's success was as directly tied to Snape as it was to Dumbledore. It seemed so anticlimactic to kill him off before the final battle and before the final revelation of his loyalties. I had expected him to stand with Harry Potter and co in the end. After years of prostrating himself before Voldemort he deserved the chance to tell the guy off.

One point in the resolution of the relationship between Snape and Harry really irked me. Snape was only protecting Harry out of a love for Lily so Snape really believed Harry to be the arrogant little brat he treated him as. I had honestly been expecting part of Snapes treatment of Harry to have been a way to keep a certain distance between a Death Eater and The Boy who Lived. If Snape was so excellent at reading minds wouldn't a glimpse into Harrys serve to change his? I couldn't reconcile a character capable of doing what Snape did with that sort of willful ignorance.

In any case Snape never lied to or manipulated Harry like Dumbledore did. He was a jerk to be sure, but his decision to protect Harry's life for its own sake never wavered. He never viewed the boy as a pawn as Dumbledore seemed to. In many ways Snape turned out to be the bravest (while still flawed) character in the novel.

For me, Snape represented the moral struggle that I look for in fiction. Harry Potter and the gang were on the right side, they always had been and their victory against evil was inevitable from the first word of the Sorcerer's Stone. There was no real moral struggle in Harry Potter's story because there was never any conflict for him over whether or not to do the right thing. And what little there was can now be explained away by the piece of Voldemorts soul that Harry carried. Snape on the other hand had to struggle and earn his redemption. For Snape his good actions were a choice and for me those are always the most interesting characters. The final unraveling of Snape felt like it should have been much less predictable, much less melodramatic and more complex than it was. In the end Snapes back story was another aha! moment in the text to magically (no pun intended) give the trio the exact knowledge they needed, at the exact moment they needed it to get one step closer to the final battle.(Was anyone else really sick of the pensieve conveying crucial information at this point?) And my oh my the final battle, anti-climactic and contrived come to mind.

    Satisfying Conclusion

As everyone knows, this is the last book in the Harry Potter series. Since it's hard to imagine anyone reading this book that hasn't already read the first 6 books and is therefore a fan, there really isn't much I need to say. If you have got to the point in the series that you are ready for this book, why would you not read it? It could be a complete dog (which it isn't) and you would still read it if for no other reason then to find out what happens. Luckily, this book is great. Rowling has grown tremendously as a writer with each successive Potter book. Action packed, less than predictable, great characters and interactions between them, clever and imaginitive, it brings the series to a satisfying conclusion. Fans may be sorry to see the series end, but at least they are given a sense of closure.

thanks guys! I just had to read the last book after seeing the Half-blood Prince in the theatre! Great movie, but the first one in the series where you don't get that sense of closure at the end and everything is left hanging as they set up for the next two movies to follow.

What a story! What an adventure! I could not have guessed how it will all progress to the end of the series and the journey was exciting and amazing. I could not have guessed what the END would be and IT did not disappoint. This book offered new concepts (how is that possible after 6 other amazing books?). I recommend reading all 7 books as if they are one and be prepared to be amazed on how JK Rowling, even though each book has its own identity, was able to connect it all from beginning to end. This book ends the series in such a way that one does not really want it to continue. After all Harry has been though, I can only be thankful to have 'lived' his story with him. It seems almost like intruding to read more about his life after this when he's already given so much. Thank you JK Rowling, Long Live Harry Potter!

I absolutely adored this book! Many questions were just begging to be answered before I read it and it took a few reads to be able to take it all in. I was a bit disappointing that it wasn't really a Hogwarts adventure, but it never would have been able to end with that. Fantastic read!

This is the seventh and final book of the Harry Potter series. In my opinion, this was the best book of the series. Voldemort has gained control of the Ministry of Magic, leaving Harry Potter on a most wanted list. The wizard world has turned against Harry and Voldemort can't wait for Harry to be killed. Ron, Hermione and Harry take the year off from Hogwarts and live on the run from the wizard world. Their mission: find and destroy all of the pieces of Voldemort's soul. This book is filled with danger, adventure, suspense and true friendship. The book is filled with moments that will make you laugh, cheer and cry. The book also gives a glimpse into the future, where the story of Harry Potter is finally wrapped up. The perfect finale.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J. K. Rowling is the seventh and last book in the series. It is extremely important to read these books in order, otherwise you will not find them enjoyable, because of the many things that are mentioned from previous books.

I found it exceptionally good, especially because I was expecting that it would be predictable as a result of what happened in the previous book. The sixth book mentioned that Harry would be in search for the remaining Horcruxes, and he was, but it was more interesting than that.

I loved the ending too, it showed a brief glimpse of nineteen years in the future, when Harry should be thirty-six years old. I never expected the series to end, but the ending was not disappointing at all. Here, Harry discovers many secrets of Albus Dumbledore and Severus Snape's pasts and discovers treasures that he had never imagined before. Harry was shown as a caring father that understood the feelings of children. The only thing I wished was mentioned in the end was what had happened with the Dursleys. As with the other books, J.K. Rowling's writing style was amazing; I was really impressed.

    SPOILERS:

Harry is about to come of age and his protection charm that his mother had given him will be lifted off. Voldemort is taking over the wizarding world slowly, and his Death Eaters are on the lookout for Harry. The Order of the Phoenix must escort Harry out of his Aunt's home and into safety before the protection wears off.

With Professor Dumbledore gone, Harry is left with the task of locating and destroying the remaining five Horcruxes, in which Voldemort has placed a part of his soul, so that he could live forever. Somehow, Harry must find the missing clues, all of the information that Dumbledore failed to tell him, on his own. Luckily, his friends Ron and Hermione won't let him go alone. With their help, watch Harry's adventure as he sets up on a nearly impossible mission tracking down Horcruxes and discovering the Deathly Hallows of the way.

The Deathly Hallows are three items that make the one who possesses them all, the master of death. They are merely legend, the Elder Wand, the most powerful wand in existence; ring that allows people to return from the dead (to a certain extent); and the invisibility cloak to hide from death.

The ideas presented in this adventure of Harry's were extremely creative, with many plot twists that I would not have expected. I still cannot believe this series ended, I was hoping it would last forever.
