by Kelley Armstrong
Narrated by: Laural Merlington

Tantor Media Inc | August 4, 2008 | Audio Book (CD)

Eve Levine-half-demon, black witch, and devoted mother-has been dead for three years. She has a great house, an interesting love life, and can''t be killed again-which comes in handy when you''ve made as many enemies as Eve has. Yes, the afterlife isn''t too bad. All she needs to do is find a way to communicate with her daughter, Savannah, and she''ll be happy. But fate-or more exactly, the Fates-have other plans. Eve owes them a favor, and they''ve just called it in. An evil spirit called the Nix has escaped from Hell. She feeds on chaos and death, and is very good at persuading people to kill for her. The Fates want Eve to hunt her down before she does any more damage, but the Nix is a dangerous enemy-previous hunters have been driven insane in the process. As if that''s not problem enough, the only way to stop her is with an angel''s sword. And Eve is no angel.

I can't get over how these books just keep getting better and better! Eve and Kristoff are awesome in this book! We get a sense of how good these characters are together and how strong their bond is even well into the afterlife. Can't wait to read the rest of this series!!

Haunted is the 5th book in the Women of the Otherworld series.

This book revolves around Eve Levine, half-demon, half-witch whose dead. She's a ghost who is obsessed with watching her daughter Savannah since her passing. She is obsessed with the idea of finding a way to speak to her. Eve has been defiant even in the afterword and isn't' always following the rules in the afterlife. Kristof Nast who is Savannah's father is also there with Eve. He was killed in a previous book. Since Kristof and Eve's breakup, Eve has been trying to avoid him because of the strong connection. She doesn't want to fall for him again, but is finding it hard not to.

Eve is asked to help the Fates to help capture a creature that is evil called a Nix. The Nix is a demonic creature who thrives on chaos and helps make female humans kill. While trying to capture the Nix, Eve enlists the help of celebrity necromancer Jaime Vegas and an Angel named Trsiel. Eve later finds out if she captures the Nix the Fates want her to become an Angel. When the Nix realizes that Eve is close she attempts to get Savannah. Eve is even more determined to get the Nix before her daughter is killed.

I did not want to read this book when I heard it was Eve narrating it. I didn't like her character from hearing about her in the previous books. And I wasn't particularly interested in reading about a demon/witch ghost. After reading the first few chapters I was hooked. I love Eve! She was easy to identify and empathise with. I love her relationship with Kristof and how she denies herself for the sake of her daughter. Great book, great read! I think this book was my second favourite so far after Bitten. I would love to have a future book on Eve.

OK thanks. Well, I think i will read this one, and see if i like it, and if I do, Which I probably will. Lol. Then I will get the rest! thx so much! How many books of the series has she written and how many more does she plan to write?!

I think you can read it alone but i wouldn't recommend it. I would start with Bitten. It's a fantastic book and each book i feel builds from the other. they are narrated by diffrent people (each book) but they do talk about past events.

Hey, i just got this book for my birthday from my brother, and i was just wondering, ic u have to read the whole series or can u just read one book outta the series. Cuz I dont wanna read it, if I should read the other ones before!?! And if i can that would be great, so that if I really really really like the book then i can always go and get the other ones, just in a different pattern!! please get back to me. Thx. :)

I have started reading this book a couple weeks ago. It is a little harder to get into than the previous books in this series. I'm more of a fan of the Elena/Clay stories than the witches/sorcerers. I'm hoping that as I read on there will be more Drama and the story will pull me in so that i can finish it like i did all the ones previous.

This is another addition to Kelley Armstrong's 'women of the otherworld' series. Of the five books in the series that I have read so far, I liked it the least. That's not to say I didn't like, I did - I just didn't love it.

Like all her other books, this story is told in first person. This time the narrator is Eve, a part-demon witch who has no problem using the darker arts. Eve's daughter Savannah was one of the main characters in Armstrong's previous two books, Dime Store Magic and Industrial Magic (both of which I liked a lot better than this one).

In this book, Eve, who is dead by the way, is a ghost and divides most of her time between the ghostly realm where all supernaturals go (there are many different ghost 'worlds') and the real world haunting Savannah. Since she is a ghost, Eve can do little more than sit around eavesdropping on her daughter. She can't do anything to communicate or influence her. Because of this, Eve is obsessed with finding a way to cross the barrier.

As fate would have it (after you read the book you will get the pun here), Eve owes a favour to the powers that be in the ghost world and she is put to work as sort of a ghostly bounty hunter.

I won't go too much into the story here, but Armstrong creates a unique and interesting look at the afterlife and what awaits us. If you are a fan of the other books in the series so far, it is worth reading this one (I'm a stickler for reading a series in correct chronological order) to get more insight into some of the characters. Jamie Vegas, the necromancer, is also featured in this book and there is some foreshadowing to further ahead in the series (book 6 I think - No Humans Involved) in which Jamie is the narrator.
