THE CONTINUING ADVENTURES OF THE SMART, SEXY - SUPERNATURAL - WOMEN OF THE OTHERWORLD

Eve Levine - half-demon, black witch and devoted mother - has been dead for three years. She has a great house, an interesting love life and can't be killed again - which comes in handy when you've made as many enemies as Eve. Yes, the afterlife isn't too bad - all she needs to do is find a way to communicate with her daughter, Savannah, and she'll be happy.

But fate - or more exactly, the Fates - have other plans. Eve owes them a favor, and they've just called it in. An evil spirit called the Nix has escaped from hell. She feeds on chaos and death, and is very good at persuading people to kill for her. The Fates want Eve to hunt her down before she does any more damage, but the Nix is a dangerous enemy - previous hunters have been driven insane in the process. As if that's not problem enough, the only way to stop her is with an angel's sword. And Eve is no angel. . . .

I can't get over how these books just keep getting better and better! Eve and Kristoff are awesome in this book! We get a sense of how good these characters are together and how strong their bond is even well into the afterlife. Can't wait to read the rest of this series!!

Haunted is the 5th book in the Women of the Otherworld series.

This book revolves around Eve Levine, half-demon, half-witch whose dead. She's a ghost who is obsessed with watching her daughter Savannah since her passing. She is obsessed with the idea of finding a way to speak to her. Eve has been defiant even in the afterword and isn't' always following the rules in the afterlife. Kristof Nast who is Savannah's father is also there with Eve. He was killed in a previous book. Since Kristof and Eve's breakup, Eve has been trying to avoid him because of the strong connection. She doesn't want to fall for him again, but is finding it hard not to.

Eve is asked to help the Fates to help capture a creature that is evil called a Nix. The Nix is a demonic creature who thrives on chaos and helps make female humans kill. While trying to capture the Nix, Eve enlists the help of celebrity necromancer Jaime Vegas and an Angel named Trsiel. Eve later finds out if she captures the Nix the Fates want her to become an Angel. When the Nix realizes that Eve is close she attempts to get Savannah. Eve is even more determined to get the Nix before her daughter is killed.

I did not want to read this book when I heard it was Eve narrating it. I didn't like her character from hearing about her in the previous books. And I wasn't particularly interested in reading about a demon/witch ghost. After reading the first few chapters I was hooked. I love Eve! She was easy to identify and empathise with. I love her relationship with Kristof and how she denies herself for the sake of her daughter. Great book, great read! I think this book was my second favourite so far after Bitten. I would love to have a future book on Eve.

Hey, i just got this book for my birthday from my brother, and i was just wondering, ic u have to read the whole series or can u just read one book outta the series. Cuz I dont wanna read it, if I should read the other ones before!?! And if i can that would be great, so that if I really really really like the book then i can always go and get the other ones, just in a different pattern!! please get back to me. Thx. :)

    Amy

I think you can read it alone but i wouldn't recommend it. I would start with Bitten. It's a fantastic book and each book i feel builds from the other. they are narrated by diffrent people (each book) but they do talk about past events.

    Steacy Morris

OK thanks. Well, I think i will read this one, and see if i like it, and if I do, Which I probably will. Lol. Then I will get the rest! thx so much! How many books of the series has she written and how many more does she plan to write?!

I have started reading this book a couple weeks ago. It is a little harder to get into than the previous books in this series. I'm more of a fan of the Elena/Clay stories than the witches/sorcerers. I'm hoping that as I read on there will be more Drama and the story will pull me in so that i can finish it like i did all the ones previous.

    With a Good Book

Haunted is the 5th book in the Women of the Otherworld series, and once again we are treated to a new perspective as this story is told from Eve's point of view. Eve is a very likable character, and I enjoyed finally getting to know her (even though she's dead!) but despite that, Haunted is my least favorite of the Otherworld novels so far. I've mentioned in my previous reviews of this series that one of the things I love most about Kelley Armstrong's writing is how she always manages to create a supernatural world that feels completely realistic. And that's why I had such a hard time with this story. The ghost world that Eve inhabits just doesn't feel believable to me. I know it's contradictory to love a story populated with witches and werewolves but not one with ghosts, but the fact that it took me three weeks to finish this story indicates that it just wasn't gripping me. As with the all the other novels in the Women of the Otherworld series, Haunted is well written, the main characters are interesting and the dialogue flows smoothly, but with all the dimension jumping, time travel and random bit characters that kept popping up, the story never really came together for me. But, for those wanting to know more about Savannah's real mother, you probably don't want to miss Haunted, although I do think this is one book in the series that could be skipped without missing too much. Even though this wasn't my favourite Women of the Otherworld story, I'm already onto Broken, the 6th book in the series, and am thoroughly enjoying it!

After meeting Eve in "Industrial Magic", I couldn't wait to read more about her. I loved the idea the serial Killer aspect in this book. darker then her other books, Armstrong had me on the end of my seat biting my nails. I really hope that maybe she'll bring Eve back for more.

I found the story between Eve and Kristof was awesome. I did find for myself that some of the story dragged on as far as Trsiel was concerned. If you're a fan of Eve and looking to read more then you'll love her reading about her in No Humans Involved. Kelly Armstrong does an amazing job with her female heroine's and I look forward to continue reading Women of The Otherworld Series.

    Good.....But Not Quite Gripping...

Considering my recent reading list, there can be no doubting the fact that I adore Kelley Armstrong. As a writer, she is intensely creative - as a builder of characters that are both intriguing and reliable, she is unmatched. Her ability to create worlds that are both supernatural and entirely believable is absolutely incredible...and yet, 'Haunted' manages to fall a little short.
As a twist of new and untried fiction, Armstrong decides not to revisit Elena, Paige or Savannah. Instead, she pulls the reader into the afterlife - an exploration that is both incredibly creative and full of mythological puns that left me giggling. In this book, the reader is beckoned to follow the dead Eve Levine as she attempts to live her afterlife as a ghost.

    Quite the oxymoron really.

The concept behind 'Haunted' is an incredible creative one, and there can be no denying the fact that Armstrong enjoys packing her pages full of action, but there was something lacking in this novel. Perhaps it was the constant need to jump through time, the need to explain the history behind the demons and the connections, or obliterations of the "good vs. evil" line. It could also be the fact that Eve Levine was, up until very recently seen as an antagonist - a black witch who struck up power-hungry alliances with sorcerers, suddenly becomes a protagonist worthy of her own book.

All in all, the book is a good one. It simply isn't as gripping as 'Bitten' or as driving as 'Industrial Magic.'

Totally agree with you. This is the least favourite of all the books in the series so far. Still, it was a good read, just not as good as her others.

You can't help but want to read Kelley Armstrong to see what she will come up with next, but I have to say Eve is not my favorite narrator. I like that she is tough, and definately enjoy the relationship with Kristoph in the underworld, but it didn't captivate me, I kind of got a bit lost with the whole ghost world, with all it's planes, and the angles/fates etc..
However saying that, I would defiantely read more about EVE, as Kelley is just that good of a writer

I was long awaiting the story of Eve. I always wondered how she would be like since in previous books, she was painted as corrupted witch.
I loved how Armstrong portrayed not only the character but the world in which she lives it. While the storyline is as far fetched as can be, I loved the mythology of the Faiths and the "Wheel of Fortune". I loved the reunion of Eve and the love of her life and father of her child Savannah. I do love that she portrays the afterlife as an alternate universe (in a sense) and its complexities were easy enough to follow and an extraordinary read.
The story line is about Eve having been given the responsibility of tracking down a nix who has been giving the Faiths quite a difficult time. What she is unaware of is the Faiths intentions for her future in the afterlife.
I really really enjoyed the novel and recommend it.

This is another addition to Kelley Armstrong's 'women of the otherworld' series. Of the five books in the series that I have read so far, I liked it the least. That's not to say I didn't like, I did - I just didn't love it.

Like all her other books, this story is told in first person. This time the narrator is Eve, a part-demon witch who has no problem using the darker arts. Eve's daughter Savannah was one of the main characters in Armstrong's previous two books, Dime Store Magic and Industrial Magic (both of which I liked a lot better than this one).

In this book, Eve, who is dead by the way, is a ghost and divides most of her time between the ghostly realm where all supernaturals go (there are many different ghost 'worlds') and the real world haunting Savannah. Since she is a ghost, Eve can do little more than sit around eavesdropping on her daughter. She can't do anything to communicate or influence her. Because of this, Eve is obsessed with finding a way to cross the barrier.

As fate would have it (after you read the book you will get the pun here), Eve owes a favour to the powers that be in the ghost world and she is put to work as sort of a ghostly bounty hunter.

I won't go too much into the story here, but Armstrong creates a unique and interesting look at the afterlife and what awaits us. If you are a fan of the other books in the series so far, it is worth reading this one (I'm a stickler for reading a series in correct chronological order) to get more insight into some of the characters. Jamie Vegas, the necromancer, is also featured in this book and there is some foreshadowing to further ahead in the series (book 6 I think - No Humans Involved) in which Jamie is the narrator.

First Armstrong book I read. I now tell every one I meet about her. This book was funny and sad, but at the same time it scared me. I loved the Lizzie Borden reference. The german folk lore added to the story as well. Great Read.

Sure, there were some moments that had me wondering whether they were necessary, but on the whole Haunted is yet another entertaining novel that had me up all night reading it! I would recommend to anyone unfamiliar with Kelley's work to read her first four novels and check out her internet site for great e-serial novellas about her fascinating Otherworld!

I really enjoy stories with multiple dimensions and Kelley has really stretched herself with this one. I love the plethora of colourful scenes and battles and emotional conflict. An epic of the afterworld.

Some trimming of the digressions would have made the story flow better.

Another nice book by Kelley Armstrong. Not as great as the others, but still a nice read and very entertaining. Would recommend the others first, but you'd probably love them all and still end up reading this one afterwards. Check out her website at www.kelleyarmstrong.com and read the Online fiction, very good short stories and little additions to things you might not know about characters.

I've read and enjoyed Kelley Armstrong's other books, but this one just seemed to go off the rails. I've enjoyed Elena's and Paige's snarky sarcasm, but jeez! Does EVERY one of Armstrong's characters have to sound the same? And this book seemed packed full of filler. Pirates? Chases in hell? Constant flipping between our world and others? With some astute editing, this would have been an action-packed 300 pager, but instead it's a bloated, drawn-out 495 page mess. Read her first four books instead.
