For as long as she can remember, Katarina has been a part of the family business-thieving. When Kat tries to leave "the life" for a normal life, her old friend Hale conspires to bring her back into the fold. Why? A mobster''s art collection has been stolen, and Kat''s father is the only suspect. Caught between Interpol and a far more deadly enemy, Kat''s dad needs her help.

The only solution is to find the paintings and steal them back. Kat''s got two weeks, a teenage crew, and hopefully enough talent to pull off the biggest heist in her family''s history-and, with any luck, steal her life back along the way.

Reviews

Rated out of 5 by from This was a novel I could not put down, I literally read it in two days. It was superb, it had adventure, and a dash of romance. When I first saw this novel I was wondering if I should buy it but then I saw it was on sale and I decided it was worth it. It was amazing, I just loved the way Ally Carter brought a twist to a natural family dynamic and brought in this fifteen year old girl named Katarina Bishop, who was raised to be a thief but decided she wants a normal life.....well you can never be normal, not in her family. I felt sorrow, anguish, and happiness all at the same time. I just wished their was a little bit more, more drama, more romance, more of everything (more pages). But in the end this novel was amazing.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Ocean's Eleven for Youth Our main character Kat is our classic non-feminine girl with a male best friend that just happens to be gorgeous (and rich), the cover is slightly misleading in this aspect with a picture of a girl who is suppose to be Kat looking positively stunning. It follows the same pattern as multiple stories about big thieving operations with the same sort of characters, this is the first one I've come across that deals with teenagers and has a girl running the operation, which makes it unique. I'd recommend this novel for a rainy day or plane ride, not something that will have you canceling dates to finish faster. That being said, I will read the sequel, because I like Kat.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Tick-tick-tick Time is tick-tick-ticking away for Kat and her team. I mean who cares if they're just a group of random teens? So what if they're up againt a million, bazillion security features? So what if they have to retrieve more than one painting in a short amount of time? So what if it seems like a completely impossible mission? They can steal it right? This book is all about busting mission impossible. And unless they accomplish their mission, they're doomed. It's interesting how the team pulls together, despite their differnces, to pull off the biggest heist of the year! If you've read Ally's other series about spies, you'd know that this is a big change from what she's used to writing about. Nonetheless, it's a great book that will keep you on the edge 'til the very end! SPOILER (in a way): I hate snakes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I Couldn't Put It Down! When I first started Heist Society, I found it a little difficult to get into--Carter kind of just jumped into the story with little introduction to the characters, and I was left wondering if I'd somehow missed something. That was soon forgotten, however, as protagonist Kat discovered that her father was in danger, and she had less than two weeks to help him out. Before long I felt like I'd known the characters forever, and I really can't wait to see what happens next! The plot was great, the action was nonstop, and the ending left me wowed. The ONLY problem I had with this novel was the way that sometimes I'd have to read a sentence over because I missed the point of it--probably just because I was reading so fast to get to the end, though! It was a quick, fun read that left me thirsty for more. Can't wait to get my hands on the next in the series!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Heist Society This book was great, it's the first book in the series, which I always love because you get to start out with a clean slate and brand new characters. I really enjoy Ally Carter's other series, the Gallagher Girls, and I was hoping that this would be just as good. I wasn't disappointed. The characters were interesting, the plot was original. It is for an audience slightly younger than myself, but it was still a great read.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ocean's Eleven - Teen style I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It had everything I was looking for: entertaining characters, a suspenseful plotline, a subtle romance, and comedy. If you have already read Ally Carter's Gallagher Girl series, you will definitely see some similarities with respect to the plotline (extremely intelligent and talented teenagers who are trained to outsmart everyone else and who need to pull off a difficult task), however there were enough differences that I didn't feel like I was reading the same book with different characters. The writing style seemed more mature than her GG series, which I enjoyed. It is told from third person, and the writing seemed a little more advanced, probably because it is not told from 1st person perspective as GG is. I LOVED the characters - they all had distinct personalities, yet they all provided comic relief with their dry sarcasm. The plot was suspenseful and had many plot twists that kept you guessing until the end. My only nitpicks are that first of all, the main antagonist seemed a little too clichéd, and second of all, the editors could have done a better job going over this. There were several typos which are annoying to read because they interrupt the flow. In addition to that, most of the dialogue started with "But", and the grammar freak in me was just a little perturbed. I recognize that obviously the writing is supposed to reflect the disjointed speech that we speak in, but there seemed to be so many odd grammatical errors that I couldn't help but point them out. Otherwise, I really enjoyed this book. I liked it better than her other series just because it seemed to have a more serious tone and plot (though I really like her other series as well), and the dialogue is a lot of fun (especially when she speaks different languages). All in all, I would definitely recommend this book for those looking for an entertaining and suspenseful read. There is not really any violence, so it would probably be appropriate for ages 12 and up.
