As a historian with an interest in Africville, I thought I knew this history well but nothing can compare to in-depth personal accounts of what really happened. Through hours of interviews and a lot of research, Tattrie gives a whole other perspective on the events that destroyed Africville. Having met Eddie Carvery myself and his brother Victor, I know that they are a wealth of knowledge but sometimes its hard to follow their line of thinking. I think Tattrie has done wonderful job of piecing this story together. Eddie expressed to me that he really wanted people to know his story and what really happened to the people that lived there.

The writing is compelling and there are points where I felt like I was in Africville . . . I forgot where I was. A must-read for anyone interested in the history of Africville.
