Jonathan Stroud has to be one of the most under rated authors. After reading the Bartimaeus Trilogy, I was quickly drawn to this new novel, expecting a great read from a wonderful storyteller. With so many books out there getting such high acclaim, recognition and/or exposure, for unoriginal stories and concepts, a lot of great ones slip through the cracks. This novel was unique. It had characters, settings and concepts that were unlike any other. I would put this book in the same vein as JRR Tokiens' The Hobbit. A great adventure that draws the reader in with humour and drama, that cannot be matched. Highly recommended to anyone that enjoys reading.
