Hiroshima

Written by John Hersey, Hiroshima is a gripping and captivating book about the atrocities of war. Hersey portrays the horrific aftermath of one of the greatest brutalities ever caused by man and humanizes barbaric inhumanity. Skillfully written, this book allows readers to follow the events that led up to the bombing of Hiroshima and the days that followed it. By hearing the real life account of the bombing one is able to live the ordeal through the eyes of survivors.I personally found this book shocking and extremely disturbing due to the reality of the entire circumstance. Even today our world is full of war and war crimes are an ever-increasing issue in the news but often the ordeal of the survivors is overlooked. This book puts a gripping reality to war. It leaves the reader in shock at the actions of the human race and in fear of the capabilities of mankind. Hiroshima is a devastating account of the world war two bombing that killed civilians and accomplished victory for the allies but at such a high price one can't help but wonder if it was worth it?
