Employee Review Mike from Chapters # 910, Winnipeg, MA

This book is as complete a chronology about the concepts and worships of God from Judaism to Islam as I've ever seen. Armstrong's insightful writing style, and her ability to humanize historical figures wIthout trivializing them, makes for a fascinating read!

    A Must Read 5

It is a phenomenal account on the history of the conception of the idea of God and the birth of monotheism, in context of three main religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam. The book starts with the pre-Abrahamic time and the development of the concept of God. The detailed treatment of Judaic scriptures and the development or refinement of the concept of God, especially during the trying times of Jewish Diaspora and persecutions is interesting to read. She lays out a concept of… read more

    A History of God 5

A very intelligently written book, comparing and contrasting the three monotheistic religions, Christianity, Judaism and Islam. Armstrong shows how each has changed our current conception of what God is - and how our perceptions have changed through the centuries. A little dry to read at times, and I found I had to reread several sections before I fully understood. But on the whole, it was a very well written book on a fascinating subject.
