The Hobbit is a tale of high adventure undertaken by a company of dwarves in search of dragon-guarded gold.
A reluctant partner in this perilous quest is Bilbo Baggins, a comfort-loving and unambitious hobbit. Filled with encounters with trolls, goblins, elves, giant spiders, riddles and the discovery of a Ring, this wonderful story also forms a prelude to The Lord of the Rings.

I find The Lord of the Rings pretty heavy going, but I'll always love The Hobbit. Smaug is a major reason.
