    Worth the hype

North America does not exist any more. In its place is the nation of Panem, which consists of the materialistic Capitol and the 12 districts that supply its wealth. To stave off rebellion, every year the Capitol demands an offering of a boy and a girl from each district to compete in a televised fight to the death known as the Hunger Games. The trilogy follows Katniss, a young tribute from District 12, as she competes, strategizes and fights for survival and explores what her actions in the arena mean for the people of the greater Panem. Action and excitement abound in the incredibly detailed and vivid world Collins has created, but there is always a sense of foreboding lurking in your subconscious as you read. Collins keeps the story interesting by continually adding surprise elements and ending the chapters with cliff hangers keeps it fast-paced. If that wasn't enough, there is just a hint of a love story to satisfy the romantics. Collins doesn’t shy away from death and violence so an older teen audience is recommended. I’d suggest buying the box set, as the series is unbelievably addicting!

I know a lot of Hunger Games fans hate the comparison to the Twilight series but as a fan of both, Hunger Games (particularly the first book) is the superior one in my opinion. For me, Katniss is a much more believable character. While she has her self-sacrificing moments (such as volunteering to be tribute to spare her sister's life), for the most part she is fairly self-absorbed which makes her much more relatable than Bella who is always unbelievably selfless. The first book is such a great easy read that I couldn't put it down until I finished it. The second book is ok but the third one is too dark and boring for me. Even though I'm not in love with all three books this is still a series you shouldn't pass on.

I just finished re-reading the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. In the book America has kind of been distorted, there is now a capital where all the rich people live there life and then there are 12 district, and this districts produce different things. The story is about Katniss who lives in district 12 which is the minor district (poor side of America); she has to take care of her mother and her little sister. the hunger games is a yearly event where one boy and one girl from each district gets chosen out of random to compete in the Hunger games, where they are placed in an area where only one can survive, the hunger game is done in a reality TV . The book starts on the day of the reaping, which is the day the children gets selected and unfortunately Katniss younger sister prim rose selected, Katniss decided to voluntary to protect her sister, and that everything gets started, one of the reasons why I like this book is because its super fast phase, I feel like the writing is very compact meaning that you can read in a day or two. There are some many aspect of this book that I really enjoy; there is one part that I can truly remember. The part where peter (the boy that was picked in district 12) and Katniss are on this train to the capital, where they have is fabulous meal and Katniss is so used to starving all the time, so getting the chance to a great mean was very special. The book is great and I recommend that you guys read the book before watching the movie.

    All 3 Books
I found all the books too fast paced for its own good. The books were well done although I think she could have dragged it out a bit so when someone dies you actually feel something. As usual I didn't really like the main character Katniss, I find I don't like the main character in most books. Although a lot of side characters help get you interested and excited for what happens next.

    1) Hunger Games
Found it very interesting and made you want to continue reading.

    2) Catching Fire
Probably the best book in the series. There was a lot of fighting and surprises that were lacking in the first book. The last half of the book especially was what made the book so great. That made of for how sappy the beginning was.

    3) Mocking Jay
Found it very hard to read, as it was very slow and boring. The last quarter was exciting and fast paced as usual. But it took to long to get tot he last part. I think this book will make a good movie from all the action in it. Of course the last quarter will probably take up most of the movie.

The Hunger Games Trilogy is truly the first book series I enjoyed from start to finish. The plot is fresh and creative, making each book a story you can't tear yourself away from. In the first book especially, there are twists you wouldn't expect, and the author does a great job of wrapping up -just- enough of the storyline to satisfy the reader, but leaves enough to be desired so that you can't wait to dig into the next book. The best part of the series is that it can appeal to varying demographics, and unlike other popular books of this genre, The Hunger Games can easily be enjoyed by males as much as females.

The Hunger Games is a thrilling, edge of your seat series that blends adventure, suspense, horror and romance. Imagine a futuristic society that consists of thirteen districts controlled by an evil oppressive and self absorbed capital. The capitals oppressive power is demonstrated through the Hunger games. In these games each district chooses one boy and one girl to enter one arena and to fight to the death until there is one victor. Imagine what happens when one brave girl has had enough. This trilogy has entertained 3 different generations. If you or your family love adventure and suspense, I suggest you take a weekend to relax and give this series a read.

I've been look at reviews for this and everyone says its good. I wanted to buy the trilogy becuz it is much cheaper than buying the books separate, but I dunno if I'd like these books. I'm more into the Dan brown type of stuff and Tom Clancy; I was wondering if these type of books would be good for someone who ils new to this type of category of books?.

I didn't think I'd be into these books either. I generally read biographies and travel memoirs and the fiction books I read are nothing of this type. Also the fact that it's found in the teen fiction section had me turned off a little bit but when I heard everyone talking about the books I had to give them a chance. I haven't been able to put the first book down and the sale on the trilogy is a great deal considering each hardcover is $20 in itself. Hope that helps!

I was skeptical as well. I thought the premise sounded too contrived. Thought I'd give the first one a shot and found them excellent. I'm actually bummed I've finished the series and have to look around for something else.

Amazing! I rarely use the word for anything but this series truly deserves the recognition. I’m not a great fan of heroines because I usually find it hard to relate to them, but this book had no such effect on me. Collins captures the uncertainty of youth against a backdrop of unbelievable horror and indifference. I like the fast paced style of writing. I enjoyed not needing know what every little detail looked like in poetic verse. It is an addictive set of books. I am a fan of history and the ties between The Capitol and ancient Rome are excellent. I also like the lack of over all high technology and petroleum in the plot. The underlying theme of helplessness ties in well with the teenage angst all of use know.

I read this trilogy in less than 2 weeks, it was THAT GOOD. I coudn't put these books down. You will find yourself on the edge of dispair while reading and yet excited as a citizen of the Capital is during The Hunger Games. You will fall in love and hate. Suzanne Collins idea alone is the most creative yet imaginable thing I have heard of in a long time. I want this series to continue on forever. I hope this book in implemented in high school reading because it teaches so many valuable leasons. Do yourself or a friend a favour and get this trilogy.

When I first encountered the Hunger Games back in 2008/2009, I thought it was very unreal and stupid because of the storyline being about killing other tributes, etc. Three years later I grabbed the Hunger Games and gave it another chance and was blown away by it. Once I was done the first book, we were leaving for vacation so I ran to Chapters right when it opened and purchased the next two books to bring with me. I read the last two books on my vacation and enjoyed them so much. I would recommend this book to someone who is into futuristic but also if you want to read something other than Twilight. You should try, the movie release is coming around the corner!

Simply put this was the best book series I have ever read. I was completely at its mercy as I couldn’t put down and it consumed my life until the last page, and for sometime after. The characters are very real, and while I found Katniss’ complete cluelessness about boys frustrating it rings very true. Her devotion to her sister and desire not to be another play thing for the capital to watch die is striking. The fact that this series does not focus solely on the love story as other series have it’s a refreshing change. While there is a love story that will probably frustrate you as it did me, the harsh realities of the games and the twisted government are definitely the underlying stars of this series. The writing is superb and extremely imaginative; you will have no problem picturing everything that is thrown at Katniss or her competitors. Pick this series up, find a comfortable spot to sit, and lose yourself in the world of Panem. Not a book series to be missed.

Ok, to start of, this is my favorite teen series... ever, but i'm not alone on feeling they deteriorate as they go on.
book one: thoughts: impossible to put down, breathtaking, suspenseful, amazing. 5 stars. characters: unique and interesting with a great and super kick ass protagonist. plot: fast-paced and always with a twist. overall a killer book.
book two: thoughts: yes, the awesomeness continues! katniss is back and just as strong as ever and the capitol is as cruel and horrible as before with more tortures in store for her. characters: more and more perfect, since we get to meet gale in person. in book two, i, like katniss couldn't pick between peeta and gale, they were both so amazing. plot: keeps up the twists and turns and suspense of the first book and shows what life was like out of the arena as well. overall: very good (though it somehow lacks something compared to its predecessor) 4 stars
    book three: what the hell?
everything that made the first two books so amazing is gone. katniss goes mental, tries to kill herself, and passes out every few chapters just as the actions revs up. the entire story is depressing and gale completely ruins everything i thought of him, becoming a character who would do the unthinkable for the 'greater good'. characters: ruined by either the capitol or simply themselves. plus almost every single character other than the leads end up in unemotional quick deaths. plot: panem is at war. death and destruction is everywhere, but so is hope. but through out the whole novel, all i could hope for was that it was over soon. 2 stars.
the ending however works for me. it had the bitter-sweet feeling i expected, and katniss made the choice i had been hoping she would, and chose the right man that she desperately needed. overall: it was a hard read, that made you feel empty and depressed, but it was a necessary read for any hunger games fan.
series overall: amazing, with hidden messages about our society and government that shone with creativity and power.
one word to describe it: wow.

I didn't have any expectations when I bought this series but while I was reading it, I just fall in love with the story and the caracters. It's well written, the plot is good and it's not just a romance or war, it includes both so it's not a chick book!!!
