Hunted: A House of Night Novel

by P. C. Cast, Kristin Cast

St. Martin's Press | March 10, 2009 | Hardcover

What if the hottest guy in the world was hiding a nameless evil, and all he wanted was you?

At the start of this heart-pounding new installment of the bestselling House of Night series, Zoey's friends have her back again and Stevie Rae and the red fledglings aren't Neferet's secrets any longer.  But an unexpected danger has emerged. Neferet guards her powerful new consort, Kalona, and no one at the House of Night seems to understand the threat he poses.  Kalona looks gorgeous, and he has the House of Night under his spell. A past life holds the key to breaking his rapidly spreading influence, but what if this past life shows Zoey secrets she doesn't want to hear and truths she can't face?

On the run and holed up in Tulsa's Prohibition-era tunnels, Zoey and her gang must discover a way to deal with something that might bring them all down.  Meanwhile, Zoey has a few other little problems.  The red fledglings have cleaned up well - they've even managed to make the dark, creepy tunnels feel more like home - but are they really as friendly as they seem?  On the boyfriend front, Zoey has a chance to make things right with super-hot ex-, Erik, but she can't stop thinking about Stark, the archer who died in her arms after one unforgettable night, and she is driven to try to save him from Neferet's sinister influence at all costs.  Will anyone believe the power evil has to hide among us?

This book could have..um...it was just a splurge of what we already knew. Yes, her friends are behind her. Yes, the dark angel has risen, and, yes, we know she has boy issues. I don't think I can read one more sentence of her debating who she loves more. It's getting annoying now. On to the next book. I have to. I already bought it. Ha!

yeah I've bought the whole series i just feel that they keep on repeating the same stuff over and over again it didn't fancy me at all the historical facts were not well written i felt that they were just tooooooo long and boring and some the whole vampire thing is just creepy i feel that the traditional ones are hundreds of times better i was fine with the series until the 4th one came out (untamed)

This book was a well written book i really liked this and i hope they write more books like this i also highly suggest if you liked this one then keep on reading the series there are lots more suprises to come

Yeah, this book signaled the end of my interest in the series. I'm afraid the next one is more of the same. After that, I haven't bothered to read, so I couldn't tell you.

I dunno what to say... I just hate, hate, creepy bird people, and Kalona want to be Erebus. I think this book dragged on a little long, but you know how much I like new characters. Question why does Kalona look beautiful to the people he "influences" that don't see he's a killer and crazy and has wings (not that I don't like men with wings) and people he doesn't influence he seems old. I don't know how they live in those dark tunnels. Why is it all guys who like Zoey is there like a spell anyway Kalona for some odd reason holds of piece of Zoey is there like a spell anyway Kalona for some odd reason holds of piece of Zoey like he draws her to him. I also love how she has so much faith in stark who died and undead and shot her friend in the last book (if you could pick a guy for Zoey it would be Erik) how could she not like him. If Zoey wasn't trying to deal with crazy Neferet and Creepy Kalona she has a deal with her many men. This book was slow at the beginning. After you got past that it kept giving action Neferet, Kalona and HON students who have given up believe in Nyx vs Zoey and the crew, Grama, Red Vamps, and nuns who pray for Vamps and unfortunately Heath

Bang of a book, and a bang of an ending, but whats in store for HON series while we are "Tempted."
Hahaha Like what I did above.

This book is a must read, once you get passed the beginning it gets awesome. So don't let the beginning stop you!! Keep going, I swear keep going.

I've been putting off reading this installment of the HON series cause they were just making me mad. But because I got Tempted from Santa I figured I better get it over with.
I have to say that while the beginning was a bit slow, I did enjoy the story.
Zoey and her friends are up against a fallen angel who fancy's himself in love with Zoey. Get in line, besides him, Zoey has Heath her human boyfriend, Eric, her vamp boyfriend and Stark the guy who shot Stevie-Rae in the last book. When Zoey wasn't trying to save the world, she's trying to decide which fella to kiss. She also is busy convince us (the reader) and herself that she's not a floozy.
Unlike the last book, this one actually had a conclusion. I'm actually excited to read the next book.

From the Critics

Praise for The House of Night:

"Move over, Stephenie Meyer." -People on Hunted

"Zoey Redbird''s first-person adventures take on added danger and importance in the latest House of Night release. Forced by circumstance to grow up quickly, Zoey''s emotional and spiritual evolution is fascinating. The Cast duo breathes life and vibrancy into the characters and makes each one an integral part of the saga. Awesome and unforgettable as always!" --Romantic Times (4.5 stars) on Hunted

"The Cast duo has done it again!  These ladies appear to be an unstoppable force within the world of YA literature… Teenage readers will be drawn to Zoey's everyday, angst-riddled life.  Not only does she need to save the world, Zoey needs to solve some major vampyre/human boy drama.  These stories are surreal, yet shockingly accurate when it comes to teenagers and their lives." -TeensReadToo.com (5 stars) on Hunted

"Teenage issues can seem like life or death, but in this haunting series, House of Night, that's really the case. Through Zoey's eyes readers are led into a world that's getting more complicated by the minute, where friends and enemies can switch positions in a heartbeat. The remarkable Cast duo continues to build a world that you won't soon forget!" -Romantic Times (4.5 stars) on Chosen

"This highly addicting series offers a unique twist on the standard vampyre story....These books will have the reader laughing hysterically and sobbing unreservedly -sometimes all at once."
-VOYA on both Marked and Betrayed

"Marked is one of the best coming of age stories to come out of Oklahoma since S. E. Hinton's The Outsiders. It teaches about the beauty of being a social outcast, friendship, and finding your own inner spirituality." -The Beltane Papers

"Zoey Redbird… is basically the most relatable vampire - sorry, fledgling vampyre - I''ve ever read about." -MTV.com

"Readers will identify with many of the characters, especially the protagonist." -Library Journal on Marked
