The Infernal City: An Elder Scrolls Novel: An Elder Scrolls Novel

by Greg Keyes

Random House Publishing Group | November 24, 2009 | Trade Paperback

Four decades after the Oblivion Crisis, Tamriel is threatened anew by an ancient and all-consuming evil. It is Umbriel, a floating city that casts a terrifying shadow-for wherever it falls, people die and rise again.

And it is in Umbriel's shadow that a great adventure begins, and a group of unlikely heroes meet. A legendary prince with a secret. A spy on the trail of a vast conspiracy. A mage obsessed with his desire for revenge. And Annaig, a young girl in whose hands the fate of Tamriel may rest . . . .

Based on the award-winning The Elder Scrolls, The Infernal City is the first of two exhilarating novels following events that continue the story from The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, named 2006 Game of the Year.

Much better than I had expected

Spending countless hours playing the video game series left me wanting to know more about the events that had occurred in The Elder Scrolls timeline. Secondly, I wanted to discover the world in more detail. This novel was much more fun and exciting to read than I had originally thought. The novel at start maybe confusing to many readers due to the fact that some background knowledge about the series is required. The author does not go into detail about the many races nor the territories of Tamriel as it should be known to the reader beforehand. The novel has many references to the events and characters of the video game series, which in turn made the novel much more enjoyable. In conclusion, the book was a great read and I cannot wait for the sequel. This novel was one of those novels that I just could not put down for a second. I recommend this to anyone who wants to know more about the series as I did. P.S. If Bethesda were to make a video game adaptation of this novel, I would buy it on day one.
