Into The Darkness

While I understand that erotica isn't romance, I still have an expectation that if an author says characters do or say or feel something, they should be able to convince the reader that this is true. But, although Natlaie and Rene say that they love each other in the end, it feels flat. There is no real reason given that these two would want to choose each other. On the contrary they are constantly being distracted by other characters, seeming to find just as much enjoyment in the arms of others than in each others'.

The plot also leaves much to be desired. The first paragraphs of this book had me wondering if my copy was missing pages, as I seemed to be dropped into the middle of an ongoing conversation between Rene and his partner. And this story was very much lacking in back story. Thow in Bad Guys that are never unmasked, and a way too conveinient ending "pop" out of nowhere, and it is obvious that Devlin spent much, much more time concentrating on sex, rather then plot.

And speaking of which, I can't decide if the sex scenes in this book remind me more of the stereotypical porm film, or a how-to manual written by an aging sex thearapist. "Hand A touches body part B." I found the descriptions did little visually, and left me cold.

Overall, one book in this series is more then enough for me.

This story was terrible. I bought it when I saw it on the bargin shelf and read the back. I thought it was going to be a good vampire novel, but I was wrong.

We're never really told who the bad guy is, the 3 way was just icky and the ending was just flat. I had intended on reading the other books in the series, but after reading this waste of paper I'll spend my money on something more useful...like magic beans. Now that's scarcasm!

I was very, very excited about the book but I was disappointed. I was expecting more of a love story involving vampires but this book was just all about sex. I mean that's not bad, but it wasn't just sex between the two main characters. The main characters were involved in sexual activities with other characters. I get that the point of the story is that vampires give in to lust while feeding but it was purely just a sex story. If you like that, go for it. If I was looking for something like that, this series would be first on my list.
I might look into the next book because Nic and Chessa's affair [secondary characters-next book's main characters] seemed more interesting than Rene and Natalie's affair [main characters].
But right now, I want a real love story.

This hot and steamy read is the first in the 'Darkness' series by Delilah Devlin. Chessa Tomas is a 'born' vampire working for the New Orleans police department. Together with her partner, Rene Broussard, she patrols the Quarter routing out nests of rogue vampires or revenants. Revenants are male vampires that have been made, not born. In Devlin's universe, vampires must feed both their lust for blood and their lust for sex.

When Chessa stumbles upon Natalie, a young 'born' vampire about to come into her powers, things heat up, especially when Natalie's powers unleash a burning lust in all who are near her.

While this was certainly an erotic and exciting read, parts of the story were a bit confusing, especially where the relationship between Nicolas and Chessa is concerned. I almost felt like I was missing part of the story because there is so obviously a history between the two but it only gets alluded to rather than explained. Despite this, it was a satisfying, steamy read.
