Little bit of a different format than what I was expecting. I figured the whoe thing would be from the perspective of our favorite tough-as-nails housekeeper Kinky Kincaid running through her life in County Cork Ireland as a child and a young woman. However this was more a walk down memory lane than a time travelling trip into the past.

Miss Kinkaid is cooking up a feast as usual in her kitchen while the doctors Himself and young Barry Laverty are off making housecalls. She gets a pleasant interruption of young ones doing the Christmas carol rounds of Ballybucklebo, and takes a wee time out to make the tots some drinks, snacks, and tell them a story about her childhood. Although of course she doesn't spin it like that.

So the narration basically pops back and forthe between Kinky's past and her current time, telling the story to the children. We learn of Kinky's childhood, the household she grew up in, and how she becomes a young wife and an even younger widow. We see her get her Sight for the first time, and learn how to handle it under the tutalage of her mother, who also has the Sight in this book.

Full of beauty, nostalgia, and fey magic, this is a wonderful story and I'm so glad we finally get to see all that made Ms Kinky Kincaid the formidable, kind, caring woman looking after two doctors with more smarts then sense sometimes.
