Jamie's Food Revolution: Rediscover How To Cook Simple, Delicious, Affordable Meals

by Jamie Oliver

Hyperion | April 30, 2009 | Hardcover

Welcome to my Food Revolution. This book is inspired by all the people I've met who thought they could never and would never learn how to cook. Of course, that kind of thinking is like a red rag to a bull to me because I believe that simple home cooking is one of the most basic, primal skills that every single person on this planet should have in order to look after themselves, their families and their friends.

So I've written this book to empower you (or the person you're buying this for) to learn how to cook as easily and as quickly as possible. I've done this by picking a whole load of recipes that we all love to eat and giving you my easy versions of them, using clear instructions and step-by-step pictures to hold your hand and open up a whole new world of great food. Whether you're a reluctant beginner or a good cook who just appreciates simplicity, allow me and this book to help you cook some truly delicious, crowd-pleasing meals.

    Recipes they'll love

I have been using alibrary copy of this for the past 3 weeks and tried 6 of the recipes. Each one turned out exactly as shown and my family loved them and kept going to the fridge looking for leftovers. This is not tricky cooking, but every day stuff that anyone can make. The instructions are clear and the techniques are easy. There's no need to go out for food when you can make these appetizing meals at home. It can get a bit pricey buying some of the fish, but it's still much cheaper than take out and much tastier.

If you know anyone who doesn't know how to cook or is even just moving out on their own but loves good food, buy this book for them. This is great book for beginners and foodies alike. Jamie Oliver is a great supporter for getting people back in the kitchen and quite relying on take out and instant food, that is destroying the health of our nation. Buy this book for yourself as well, try some recipes and pass them on!

I had watched one episode of "Jamie's Food Revolution" TV show prior to purchasing this book. Having now owned the book for two weeks, I can say that I love it.

I've cooked at least six meals from the book, and even my picky seven year old has called all of the meals yummy.

Unlike other cookbooks written by celebrity chefs (i.e. Gordon Ramsey) that I own, Jamie's recipes are simple:
    - I can find all the ingredients in a normal grocery store
    - there's not an overuse of herbs
    - the meals are easy to assemble and cook

As a detractor, I'd like to see healthiness ratings for all of the meals. A few involve using heavy cream, and salt - things I normally do not put into my own cooking.

Overall, I'd have to give this book 4 stars, and I'm going to keep using it for quite a while.
