Juggling Dynamite: An Insider's Wisdom on Money Management, Markets, and Wealth That Lasts

by Danielle Park

Insomniac Press | March 1, 2007 | Trade Paperback

This book shows you how to bulletproof your investments so that neither you nor your money are trampled by the herd mentality of the marketplace. Investing can be challenging, and compounding the problem are the pressures that stem from the profit-oriented investment sales industry and the attention-seeking business media. In Juggling Dynamite, portfolio manager Danielle Park reveals not only how to protect your money but also how to actively make it grow.

Park explains how investors can benefit from understanding market cycles, the cost of mutual funds, and the evaluation of stock prices. This book will equip you with the tools to make your portfolio grow using active investing and an understanding of market timing. Juggling Dynamite will enable you to reach that elusive brass ring: lasting financial success.

Danielle Park is a chartered financial analyst with over sixteen years of professional consulting experience. She helps manage millions of dollars as a portfolio manager and partner at the independent investment counsel firm she co-founded. She is also an avid health and fitness buff. She lives in Barrie, Ontario.

I wish I had this book 15 years ago when I started investing in mutual funds. This book will open your eyes to the real world of investing. The financial adviser is just a financial salesperson selling you products which will eventually eat up your hard earned money. Beyond the realistic views of the market, PARK leaves you with an understanding of what you need to do as an investor. She also gives you guidance to improve your chances in the future. However, she explains why no one is going to do it for you. I recommend this book to anyone with investments or someone who wants to learn about investing. Even if you invest in GICs or bonds you still need to read this book.

Didn't find this book interesting at all. It is all common sense, so you don't need this book to equip yourself with the tools to make your portfolio grow. Waste of money this book!

As the comment was posted in late 2007, I wonder if they might have a different view now? Dannielle was right on the money (unfortuantely) as the market crashed in late 2008.

This is an unfair and unrealistic view of this book. If you understood the book you would have gleaned that "common sense" is not how the investment world works. If it was so easy and common sense would prevail, we would all be millionaires. We all would have sold at the peak of the tech boom and would have sold in July 08 as oil finally peaked. The self directed investor and the passive investor (mutual fund purchaser) would all benefit from this book. "Common sense" is just not plentiful in the investment world.

Finally a book that cuts through all the hocus-pokus of investing and our constant judgment errors about money. Great Stories about real people and insights about how a large part of the industry looks after its self and not us investors. Thanks for sharing.
