Not nearly as good as the PJO series.I found it hard to differentiate between the two narrators when I'm reading. I always has to go back and check to see who was speaking. Carter or Sadie. I also had issues with the number of events that happened in this book. There were many small and forgetful incidents that occured. When I finished, I found it hard to trace back all the things that had happended. Definately too busy. But I enjoyed learning about the different gods but there were A LOT of things that Riordan could have expained better. I'm still unsure of what exactly Duat is. The House of Life is also not well explained considering its importance to this series. So there are the reasons for the 3 stars.

Not as good as the Percy series but then again just reading the first Percy Jackson book you would need to read the rest to get the full experience and love for the series. That being said a lot happened in the first book, a lot was explained, and a lot implied. Good start for a series.

I admire Rick's work here, he's style in this book was different from the Percy series but still good. I knew nothing about egyptian gods but the way he explained, made me understand and laugh as well. Rick sure knows how to grab the readers. Hmm I wonder which is better Greek or Egyptian gods, though i see some resemblance. :D Thanks and well done Rick !!!!

Ok I loved it , but this is book 1 and Rick is coming out with a new searies, what happend to book 2 of THIS searies, on the book cover it says BOOK 1, and all I whant to know is if there is going to be a book 2 or not and I will be so mad if the storie of Sadie and Carter Kane is not continued.

Great for anyone of any age who enjoy mythology, especially if it's Egyptian. Its got quirky, funny moments kids and adults can appreciate. The story of a brother and sister who discover that they are the by products of two powerful Egyptian wizard bloodlines, they are drawn against their will in a battle between the gods for the salvation or destruction of the earth. Along the way they are alternately befriended and spied upon by a secret society sworn to keep the balance in the world and the gods in their place. Fantastic story. I really liked it, but the story telling is a little off. Narration voice switches back and forth between brother and sister throughout the book. While usually done well, it can be confusing as to who is speaking and doing what if you don't follow the changes closely. Aside from that, great beginning to a new series by an established author.

rick riordan is an amazing author. this first book of the kane chronicles is a page turner and i'm pretty sure everyone will like it. an extremely good read!!!!!!!!!!

I purchased this for my 10 year old son. He was captivated right from the first chapter. Very well written and a great story line. Can't wait for the next book to come out.

Though it was a good book it had almost the same plot as percy jackson. In the first book of percy jackson, at first percy believes that Ares is the real enemy. Then in the end he learns that Ares isnt the real enemy, Krono is. In the Red Pyramid, Sadie and Carter think Set is the real eneny, really it's someone else.
