Kids Are Worth It! Revised Edition: Giving Your Child The Gift Of Inner Discipline

by Barbara Coloroso

September 1, 2002 | Trade Paperback

The parenting classic, now revised with new chapters, checklists, and information about today''s most pressing issues regarding our children

This bestselling guide rejects "quick-fix" solutions and focuses on helping kids develop their own self-discipline by owning up to their mistakes, thinking through solutions, and correcting their misdeeds while leaving their dignity intact. Barbara Coloroso shows these principles in action through dozens of examples -- from sibling rivalry to teenage rebellion; from common misbehaviors to substance abuse and antisocial behavior. She also explains how to parent strong-willed children, effective alternatives to time-outs, bribes, and threats, and how to help kids resolve disputes and serious injustices such as bullying.

Filled with practical suggestions for handling the ordinary and extraordinary tribulations of growing up, "kids are worth it!" helps you help your children grow into responsible, resilient, resourceful adults -- not because you tell them to, but because they want to.

    Excellent!!

This book explains why the typical methods of discipline & parenting are used to control children, rather than teach them to think for themselves. Ms. Coloroso explains the 3 types of parents, and then gives practical advice on what to do to empower our children to make their own decisions, solve conflict, and become independant thinkers. Well written, a must have for every parent!

This book gives a lot of information on how we can affect our children in a positive way. At first, I was thinking to myself, well, that's all nice and well, but what's left to be done... Dont worry and just continue reading, the good stuff is further on. I strongly advise this book to every parent, it helps deprogram some stuff that just isnt helpful or productive in parenting.

Hands down, this is the best parenting book I have ever read! It's powerful, healthy and simple approach to parenting inspires you to parent your best. Its no wonder, this book is being used as reference material for college/university students in Ontario, as well as the Toronto Board of Education. Punishing is out, diciplining is in! Finally, tatics that parents feel good about, and consequences children can live with.

Coloroso knows parenting. This book contains a fabulous foundation for family discipline and good behavior. I'd give it 5 stars - expect it's a bit wordy and takes some digestion to figure out how to make it work for you. It's worth reading. I'd also recommend a new book called Perfect Parenting by Elizabeth Pantley.
