This novel is huge but definitely worth it..
Domenic & Thomas are identical twins, except one has schizophrenia. We are introduced to them as adults in 1990 and through flashbacks relive their childhood lives with them. So many issues are addressed in this novel. The family dynamic , sibling rivalry, mental illness, friendship, love, loyalty, the state of the medical system and so much more I cannot even describe.
The characters are very interesting, bringing many sidelines to an already captivating story. This is extremely well written and will hold you hostage from the very first line.
I was not too fond of the ending, those of you that have read it will know everything was tied up too perfectly , but that said I still give it 5 stars .It is still very good,
If you are going to read one book this year make it this one.

    Could not put it down

I picked up this book on a whim, and I was really glad that I did. The characters were so well-developed that you could feel whether you liked or hated them as you went along. I thought it was interesting considering that some people expect identical twins to be the same in all aspects of their lives, and yet in this book, they couldn't be more different. I love the way that the author told the story - so rich with detail. I have read this twice but would love to read it again.

After reading She's Come Undone I was Eager to read another book by Wally Lamb. I went out and bought I Know This Much Is True and The Hour I First Believed hoping that I'd have hours of entertaining reading ahead of me. In the end I found both books so dreadfully boring I just gave up reading them. The story line is interesting but the author doesn't know how to omit useless boring information.

Are you serious ?! What's wrong with people these days? Do you have any taste in books? This book was amazing! Perhaps even better than She's Come Undone (it was good too).

At first daunted by the sheer size of this book, I was intrigued by the comments of so many others. We'll I'm here to say it was as good and even better! Mr Lamb you have done it again. Grabs you from the very first sentence and doesn't let go until the last. A cast of characters that will remain with you forever and a rich tale with many layers very beautifully told. A must read for everyone.

I am just getting through this book and I can just not put it down! I fell in love with "She Comes Undone" and yet again I have fallen in love with "I Know This Much is True". The story is very touching and makes you become more aware of mental disabilities.

How anyone can say this book was 'too long' and they had to 'push themselves to read through it' is beyond me! Don't let this almost 900 pages scare you, this is truly a great book. I could not put it down! I would promise my 'only one more chapter' and then I would just have to read onto the next to find out what happened. This book had me from the first page to the last. It is a touching story that touches on so many subjects. Everyone should read this book!

    Way too long

Like others, I kept pushing myself to keep reading even though the book was failing to capture my attention. I kept telling myself that it would pick up. If the author condensed that story into half the size, it could have been better. I didn't hate it, but it will never make my top 10 list. I'm just proud of myself that I actually finished it.

I found the Domenico's memoirs much more interesting than the adventures of the "Birdseed" twins.

I bought this book ages ago, and put it on my pile of "obligatory reading". You know, the books you think you should read, but don't ever actually get around to. But when I started reading it, I found it impossible to put down. This book touched me in ways I never expected, and made me so much more aware of the challenges of mental illness, and the humanity of it as well. It is "obligatory reading", and I say that with great respect. Everyone needs to read this book, and understand the complexity of family, for good or bad.

This is my favorite book ever, hands down. There is an innate sensibility to this that seems so basic. The only part of the book that seems unplausible to me is the way his relationship with his wife turns out at the end of the book.

I read this book years ago and loved it. I remember feeling a bit disappointed when I was finished the book because I could have kept reading it forever. The book kept me page turning well into the wee hours of the night.

I just recently read the book again, and once again found myself reading well past bed time.

Give this book a try, you will not be disappointed!

I am an avid reader, I could read a book a day if time was a luxury I could afford. I have read thousands of books in my lifetime.

This book was the most amazing of them all.

Wally Lamb's ability to enthrall the reader was like no other - I did not put this book down until I finished it. (Well I used the facilities a couple of times, but you know what I mean)

This book simply put is about a twin brother who is coping or trying to cope with the mental illness of his twin brother. He blames others around him, blames himself and resents everyone. At times he even questions his own sanity. All whilst playing the supreme protector of his brother.

This is a fiction piece that resembles quite closely the relationship my father had with his twin who was/is mentally ill. (Except for the library sacrifice that takes place..thankfully that hasn't transpired in my Uncles life)

It also helped explain many parts of my father to me.

The insight to mental illness and the ripple effect was so real - it was frightening.

Do not hesitate to purchase this book, you will not regret it.

Never have I read a book that has so completely redeemed itself in the end! I must admit that for the first hundred or so pages I was not convinced, but I kept reading due to Oprah's seal of approval. Lamb does a magnificent job of taking you inside the life of the main character, and once hooked I could not put the book down. The end of the book leaves you feeling breathless...

It's not often that I read a book twice but This Much I Know is True is special. I first read it years ago and again recently. The main character is so real, so touching, you want to learn more about him, to meet him. This is a book very hard to put down. Complex, interesting characters. A truly beautiful book....

    Sounds like Conroy

Although this book was amazing, and nearly impossible to put down for 3 days, the parallels between this book and "The Prince of Tides," are more than striking. Mentally ill twin is hospitalized, while "well" twin seeks services of their psychiatric help.
No matter, both are great books, that will make you think and then be glad that you don't have a twin.
I wonder if Pat Conroy has read this book.
