My only reasoning why this book did so well because... well, it's Lauren Conrad.... Whoever loves the Hills or loves her will probably love this book. I picked it up because I was curious behind the world of reality TV and how it's arranged. I give her credit for letting me enter that world.

Apart from knowing what goes on in a reality show, that's all there was to it. You're just reading about girls going to work, school and clubs.... Until a guy shows up in the story...and then another guy...and what do you know, you got drama. I wouldn't have minded it so much if it had a conclusion to it. I read a whole book, got nothing out of it (Except the glimpse of reality tv) and was left empty-handed at a resolution.

So if your looking for reality TV in a book, a non-existent plot, a simple main character, be left empty-handed with a cliffhanger as an ending, this book is for you.

I only read the first few pages and was shocked that this was ever published. Obviously some money exchanged hands and names were dropped. As it has been said before... you obviously have the intellect of a two year old to have enjoyed this book (OMFG YAAAYzzz LAREUAN CONERAD!! iz cant speel!) Honestly... I laughed. Then I showed a friend of mine and they laughed with me. Then we grabbed another friend, showed him and we all laughed merrily together at the sheer tragedy this "novel" is. In just the first few pages that I read I could see so many flaws. It was predictable, bland and she used way too many adjectives... sort of like a 7 year old who first learns what they are and decides that the beautiful snowflakes fell softly from the frigid winter air twirling about makes a great sentence.

This isnt the kind of book that I usually read, I'm not so interested in these kinds of books, but for what it was it was pretty good. Lauren Conrad could really put some of her own personal experience into these books, and I'm sure that helped with the concept and all. I'm still debating weather or not to buy the second one though! 3/5

I absolutely love Lauren Conrad, and The Hills and all that, so I was REALLY looking forward to reading this book. Unless you are a teenager, this book is NOT for you. Anyone with an intellectual capacity to get through Dr. Seuss shouldn't even bother with this book. Poorly written is an understatement. It sounds like a high school teenager's project for "creative writing". Obviously this book is only getting the hype because of L.C. and not because of any talent. My advice: Don't bother wasting your time.

I know! I was intrigued by her idea to become an author so I read the first couple of pages, convinced she had used a ghostwriter. It only took the first two horribly written sentences to realize two things: one, yes, lauren conrad did write this and two, she cannot write even a little bit

    Worst Book I Have Read

I love reading books, and when I heard all the buzz I thought why not give it a shot. I regret wasting my money on this book. You can tell the book was written by someone with no writing talent because of all the apreivations that teenagers use (wtf, etc.). The ending was terrible, just terrible. And although a lot of people say how they loved this book, and they may, but I have had never heard of Lauren Conrand before I can honestly say this was just plain out not good.

L.A. Candy was an absolutely spectacular book. It was interesting and Lauren Conrad was able to give the readers a sense for who the characters really were. These characters were easy to relate too. They were four normal girls, and they were chosen for a once in a life time chance to be on a reality show. This book managed to grab my complete attention in the first chapter. L.A Candy talks about real life scenarios with girls just living life it its fullest. There was never a dull moment in L.A. Candy. Lauren managed to keep the readers interested and sitting on the edge of their seat, in excitement for what was going to happen next. L.A. Candy is a book that would be more suitable for an older audience. There is mature topics discussed through out the book. L.A. Candy reminded me of the hit reality show The Hills. This book was a must read if you are a girl anywhere from 15+. This book wasn’t a hard read but it did have large words here and there but just about anyone could read it. Lauren shows her creative side in this books and it give you a glimpse of what she has been through in here own life. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a great read. This is a book you will not be able to put down. I cant wait to the second book to come out. Lauren did a great job writing this book and is a very talented writer.

I picked up this book not expecting to be thrilled with it's contents. It was as great as many of the chick lit books I've read in the past. I enjoyed the characters, loved the storyline, and I am definitely looking forward to the next book!
    Great Job L.C!

i bought this book a little over a week ago, and finished it about 5 minutes ago. and i CANNOT wait until "Sweet Little Lies" is released! this book, "L.A. Candy" was absolutely amazing. it was well written, and flowed very nicely. i like how Lauren wrote a couple chapters from each characters perspective (like what they were doing, what they were thinking) it added that much more intensity to the book.
i recommend this book to anyone who watches The Hills or enjoys drama & love stories.

LA Candy follows Jane Roberts and Scarlett Harp as they make their move from Santa Barbara to the bright lights of Los Angeles, California. It follows them as they learn what it's like to live in a big city and we watch as they're thrown in the spotlight and treated as celebrities. What I really enjoyed about this story is the behind the scenes look we got into the whole reality t.v. world. I knew that it wasn't exactly real, that the TV Producers throw the characters on the shows into different situations and watch as the characters work through the situations on their own so it was fun to see how things are done because though L.A. Candy was based on The Hills, the characters were different and the storylines were different. All in all, i thought it was a really great book and i cant wait for the second one! "Sweet Little Lies" is to come out in Febuary!

This book was fantastic! I loved how the chapters were short and the font was big. I would TOTALLY read this book again. Like 3 more times :P The ending indicates another book which i will soooo buy!

With such high literary standards how could it not be a hit?

    Word Taster

Good Lord! "the chapters were short and the font was big"... were there pictures? My cat just horked up a hairball. All I can think of are those Grapes of Wrath lyrics (the band; not the book) and wonder if any mentors have said to themselves in despair, "Don't tell me all the things I wasn't could have made this big a difference to all the things you are." To quote the UNCF motto, "A mind is a terrible thing to waste." To quote the band, Ministry, "A mind is a terrible thing to taste." .... especially if it's stale dated... I feel the overwhelming need to stick a rusty fork in my eye to distract me from the agony of this, or perhaps an auto da fé fueled, in large part, by this book... and some accelerant. Like TOTALLY!

how? i read the first 30 pages then got bored of it. so i flipped to pg.130 and the story seemed like it was continued. this book may be fun to some ppl but for me, it was boring, bland and had an overrated plot. i closed this book in great disappointment to lauren conrad and give the book two thumbs down.

I never watched the hills, but I watched a lot of entertainment shows. I was disappointed with her book, I thought it was going to be way more juicy! I thought it was going to be an young adult version of Gossip Girl, but poor Lauren doesn't even follow close. It's an OK read, if your bored and want to read something, sure, she gives you a back ground on the " reality shows" but besides that, the women needs a little imagination!

Watching Lauren grow up on Laguna and The Hills makes you really get attached to her. So I couldnt wait till her book came out and spill the juicy gossip about the behind the scene of the Hills. I really liked how she wrote about the characters, most of them sounded like the people from the hills, but it was a bit confusing to figure out who was who. The ending was not the best, its sounds like she was setting it up for a sequel, but it just left you there to wonder. Honestly if your a fan of Lauren then get it, but if you just want to read it and find out what its about, then wait for the soft cover.

Well I really like this book in the beginning, but towards the end I got really sick of "Jane's" poor me attitude. The writing was alright, it wasn't consistent in its style though and that was a bit frustrating at times. I wouldn't recommend it but be warned, it isn't a great read.
