When Dr Alice Tanner discovers two skeletons during an archaeological dig in southern France, she unearths a link with a horrific and brutal past. But it's not just the sight of the shattered bones that makes her uneasy; there's an overwhelming sense of evil in the tomb that Alice finds hard to shake off, even in the bright French sunshine. Puzzled by the words carved inside the chamber, Alice has an uneasy feeling that she has disturbed something which was meant to remain hidden...

Eight hundred years ago, on the night before a brutal civil war ripped apart Languedoc, a book was entrusted to Alais, a young herbalist and healer. Although she cannot understand the symbols and diagrams the book contains, Alais knows her destiny lies in protecting their secret, at all costs.
Skilfully blending the lives of two women divided by centuries but united by a common destiny, LABYRINTH is a powerful story steeped in the atmosphere and history of southern France.

    not bad, not great 2

This review is from: Labyrinth (Hardcover)

OK book. Certainly not the worst I have ever read, but not the best by far. Pretty much figured out what was going on by page 12, which sucks in a book that has more that 600 pages! The writing was good, but she did tend to go on and on and on in far more detail than necessary. Despite the size it is a pretty quick read, so if you want a book just to pass the time, this one works.

    Labyrinth- Kate Moss 4

This review is from: Labyrinth (Trade Paperback)

This is the type of book I read and deem it mediochre until I get to the end...And the ending is just so beautiful and cumulative that it was worth reading after all and it will be much greater the second time around when I can see where it's going. Pros were Lovely heroines, evil detestable she-devil villains, utterly fall head over heels in love with heros and the sweetest love story I've seen in a while.. Cons were the needlessly ugly angry gag reflexing sexual content and equally needless… read more

    ***UGH Painful*** 1

I love long books. I love strange or even medieval settings in a book. But this was painful. Before reading the book flip to the acknowledgements in the book. There Mosse thanks her "patient" editor. I say her "patient and fully useless" editor. Aren't editors supposed to make suggestions to limit redundant sentence structure and description? At one point the author is describing the main character going down the hall to the spy on someone and every aspect of the hall is described but to no… read more

    Very Interesting 3

This review is from: Labyrinth (Hardcover)

I found this novel really interesting as it flipped back and forth between the past and the present. The storyline is somewhat difficult to follow through the first three quarters of the book - but that last quarter makes it all worthwhile. The ending pulls it all together and finishes the story. Anyone who likes a nice long read with a great ending should read this book.

    great book 5

I read sepulchre first and I think it made me appreciate the plot of labyrinth more because the plots intertwine. I felt connected to the characters and really enjoy the way she works in the present day and the characters from the past. It is an interesting read and you have to pay attention to details while you read or else you might miss some important information. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading.

Escape and learn through time! 4

I discovered Kate Mosse by hazard ! Was looking to read something different, I like history but through novels ... and I didn't know what to expect. To my surprise it was a refreshing book, intelligent, full of information about the South west of France historically. You can tell the author has a passion for this region of France and she really did research about it. I recommand it if you like to travel through time, and learn some french history.

    Disappointing 1

Don't believe the cover blurbs. Not worth the time. Long, drawn-out, disjointed & poorly written to the point that I laughed out loud at it several times. The only good part is the well- researched history of the Cathars.

Wasted two weeks of my life... 2

Like the first reviewer, I picked this book up from Chapters because I was looking for something thick to read. "Labyrinth" disappointed me greatly. All the characters, especially the "heroines" are extremely flat and two dimensional... I find their reactions to the perils they had to face HILARIOUS. The villains were no better. If you want a good history conspiracy novel, do NOT waste you life on this. If you want a melodrama/noir novel with some deaths involved, try this one.
