A Lion Among Men Low Price Unabridged Cd: Volume Three in The Wicked Years

by Gregory Maguire

HARPERCOLLINS PUBLISHERS | September 11, 2009 | Audio Book (CD)

In the much-anticipated third volume of the Wicked Years, we return to Oz, seen now through the eyes of the Cowardly Lion.

While civil war looms in Oz, a tetchy oracle named Yackle prepares for death. Before her final hour, a figure known as Brrr?the Cowardly Lion?arrives searching for information about Elphaba Thropp, the Wicked Witch of the West. Abandoned as a cub, his path from infancy is no Yellow Brick Road. In the wake of laws that oppress talking Animals, he avoids a jail sentence by agreeing to serve as a lackey to the warmongering Emperor of Oz.

A Lion Among Men chronicles a battle of wits hastened by the Emerald City's approaching armies. Can those tarnished by infamy escape their sobriquets to claim their own histories, to live honorably within their own skins before they're skinned alive?

Gregory Maguire's new novel is written with the sympathy and power that have made his books contemporary classics.

For those who truly love the story line of the Wicked Years, you cannot finish the series without this book. Yes, this book does get slow at times, but in the end the storyline flows well. The ending, I think was great, and it really gets you caught up in the world of OZ according to Gregory Maguire. Overall, I really liked it, again it is hard to get into but if you really love the series so far, you will enjoy this one to.

Like I said, WICKED was good, SON OF A WITCH was ok... I guess. It dragged on and a lot could have been left out but good ending. Now this... A LION AMONG MEN was probably the hardest book to finish as it really dragged on and was literally quite boring. The caption on the back of the book made it seem so interesting but not so. Very disappointing. A lot of loose ends but I can only hope that this will all be wrapped up in OUT OF OZ...Maquire's 4th and final book in the wicked years. You might want to do yourself a favor and check out the library first before opening up your wallet.
