Lives of the Saints

After seeing a snippit of the tv movie starring Sophia Loren, I was tempted to revisit the text I should have read during university but mangaed to avoid. Glad I did, the text is both familiar for anyone of European background, as well as educationional pertaining to man's perception of freedom.

I first read this book in grade 9 or 10 english class. I though the book was powerful then, but after reading it a second time just last week, I am even more amazed by Nino Ricci.

Everyone should read this novel. It left me thinking about superstitions and gossip, and how they torment families. Vittorio's Mother overcame the talk of the town and left with her head held high. The ending left me with tears in my eyes as I quickly purchased the sequal In a Glass House .

A MUST READ!!!

One of the most important and best Canadian novels. It tells of the richness of culture that is abandoned and the reasons why we abandon it to come to this nation.

Lives of the Saints is a powerful and moving story of a young boy(vittorio) and his mother and how they were outcasted in post-WWII Italy. Ricci handles little details with such precision and delicacy, while making the story easy to read. If you haven't read this story you should add it to your reading list immediately!

Lives of the saints is an excellant novel by nino ricci. It is expressed through a 7yrs old boy named Vittorio Innocennte. The story takes place in a small town called valle de sole in itlay. Since finding secondary notes on this book is hard you may write to me for more information.

Ricci's Lives of the Saints is a great book. It is amazing that this is only his first book. He writes from the point of view of 7 year old Vittorio very well and his descriptions of Italy are fantastic. Beware, however, that this is the first book in a trilogy and the ending of the first book only makes you want to read more
