Lone Wolf: A Novel

by Jodi Picoult

Atria/Emily Bestler Books | February 28, 2012 | Hardcover

A life hanging in the balance…a family torn apart. The #1 internationally bestselling author Jodi Picoult tells an unforgettable story about family, love, and letting go.

Edward Warren, twenty-four, has been living in Thailand for five years, a prodigal son who left his family after an irreparable fight with his father, Luke. But he gets a frantic phone call: His dad lies comatose, gravely injured in the same accident that has also injured his younger sister Cara.

With her father's chances for recovery dwindling, Cara wants to wait for a miracle. But Edward wants to terminate life support and donate his father's organs. Is he motivated by altruism, or revenge? And to what lengths will his sister go to stop him from making an irrevocable decision?

Lone Wolf explores the notion of family, and the love, protection and strength it's meant to offer. But what if the hope that should sustain it, is the very thing that pulls it apart? Another tour de force from Jodi Picoult, Lone Wolf examines the wild and lonely terrain upon which love battles reason.

This book was a SAD attempt to give us something new. It was very formula Picoult. The ending was evident by the end of the first chapter. I am very disappointed - I am a loyal fan and have read all the books....this by far was the BIGGEST waste of time and money. BHAA!

    Another Winner for Jodi Picoult

Jodi Picoult has another winner here. This time she writes about a family's experience dealing with end-of-life issues. I don't think this is her best work, preferring My Sister's Keeper and House Rules, but she deals with the multiple issues in this book with her usual skill.

I find that she always does her research when writing her novels and always deals with sensitive issues with such skill. You learn quite a bit about the behaviour of wolves in this books and how close to human behaviour they really are.

    Teffific Book!

I couldn't put this book down! I can only imagine how much research Jodi Picoult needed to do in order to create a story involving brain injuries and wolf characteristics and habits - and sound plausible!

I highly recommend this novel, whether you're a fan of Picoult's books or not. I think this is one of her best. My way of telling a good story is often whether I care deeply about the characters and what happens to them. Believe me, I did care. Enough to need a kleenex box.

    Another good read

Her books are becoming a bit "formula" but I can't seem to get enough of them. Brother and sister fight, in court as usual, over guardianship of their brain-damaged and comatose father. One wants to pull the plug, the other can't bear to let him go. I had a hard time putting this one down and would recommend it as a good read. The insight into wolf behavior is a bonus.
